Featured Feline: Stray Boy
Stray Boy came into our care as, yep, you guessed it, a stray in mid-October. This sweet boy enjoys lounging around the house and taking it easy. Although he's not much into playing with toys, he loves to be petted. He'll purr like crazy if you scratch his backside and behind his ears! Stray Boy is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, so he can be brought home for only $45. Come on out today to see if Stray Boy is the right fit for you! |
Compatible Canine: Cody
Cody transferred into our care towards the end of January. This guy is a go-getter with a lot of energy! He would thrive in a home where he can get tons of exercise. Cody has a heart of gold and loves to be around people. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with them outside! (Another dog + fenced-in yard + kids = CODY HEAVEN!) Cody would really like to find his permanent home with someone who is happy and energetic like him! Come meet this energetic fella today! |

Today, I am publicly announcing that I will be leaving the Cedar Valley Humane Society in mid-March.
This has been a difficult decision for me to make, both personally and professionally, but another opportunity awaits me in the West, where I am originally from. I will continue to be available to the staff and board of directors to ensure a smooth transition.
I have really enjoyed being part of the wonderful Cedar Rapids community, and I have met and worked with some amazing people. The most rewarding part of my experience has been seeing more than 2,000 homeless animals find new, loving families to share their lives with.
The Cedar Valley Humane Society is truly a great organization and will continue to be worthy of your support.
I want to thank all of you for helping us help so many animals!
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. I look forward to seeing you at Whine & Wags. If you can't make it, please take a moment to donate today to help the animals in our care. |

Loretta Gronewold: Camping and spending most all day outside!
Mik Beauxgard: Taking the cats out in the cat buggy for walks.

Volunteer Spotlight: Julia Kottke
Julia Kottke has been volunteering for a few months now. Julia works full time as a teacher yet she seems to find time to come to the shelter most weekends and weeknights to walk dogs.
Julia wants to make sure every dog gets out when she comes! She dresses in many layers, and by the time her volunteer shift is done, she is usually down to her final layer of clothing due to the workout she gets. She loves it!
Julia is always one of the first to answer our call for help when we need volunteers for special events. She has a bubbly personality that is infectious! If you're having a bad day, she can lift your spirits in five minutes, so you can imagine the positive effect she has on the animals.
Julia knows all our dogs and keeps track of who is here and who was adopted. She is very interested in helping us with our mission, and she always asks great questions!
Julia, thank you for all you do for our animals-- and for being an important member of our volunteer team! |
Happy Tail: Grover is Such a Blessing
Hey, everyone!
I just wanted to give you all an update on our dog Grover. My boyfriend and I adopted him on Black Friday in 2012.
He has been such a blessing to our little family. He enjoys running around our yard, playing catch with balls and frisbees, and running around the house with his Hawkeye blanket.
Although Grover has had many stomach issues this past year, we are so thankful to have him in our lives as our "fur child." He has fully recovered from surgery to see what was wrong with his stomach, and is our happy puppy again! The vet told us that his stomach couldn't break down certain proteins as well as others, such as chicken and beef. Now that he is on a restricted diet, he is doing tons better.
We want to thank you for finding him, taking great care of him while he was with you guys, and allowing him into our home and hearts. Here he is at his first Christmas as a member of our family.
Grover sends his love! Ashley D. Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
