Featured Feline:
Masuka

Masuka came to us as a stray at the end of December. This handsome little guy is blind, but he doesn't let that stop him from enjoying life! (We think he can see or sense movements and shadows... there's no way to be totally sure.) Masuka is very curious about his surroundings and loves to explore. He is quite affectionate and enjoys cuddle-time with his favorite people. (Hey, you could be one of them!) Come on out today and meet Masuka to see if he is the right cat for you!
Compatible Canine:
Sam

Sam transferred into our care at the beginning of January. He's a very sweet little couch potato who could use some time running around with kids in a fenced-in backyard. (Yes, he has a few extra pounds to shed!) Sam is great with kids, and he would make a perfect family dog. Because he is very vocal, we do not recommend he live in an apartment. (His Beagle ba-roo would drive your wall-sharing neighbors... well... up the wall!) Sam is a member of our Silver Paws Club, so he can part of your family for only $100. Come meet this adorable guy today!

As we eagerly look forward to the onset of spring and milder weather, many of us will take a look around our households and begin the annual ritual of spring cleaning.

Surely, the cleaning ritual involves a sponge and soapy water, but it also can be an opportunity to rid the home of items that are in good condition, but that you may simply not want any more. (Perhaps they no longer fit your lifestyle or dcor....)

If this is the case, we have a way for you to help the animals!

Bring your unwanted items to Stuff Etc. and consign them to the Cedar Valley Humane Society's account. We have accounts at three convenient Stuff Etc. locations--Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Coralville.

A percentage of the money generated from the sale goes to help the animals. It's a great way to help...and feel great about all your hard work!

Thank you for your support!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
How does your pet behave when someone comes to the door?

Angie Kisling: He freaks out. Barking like someone is there to steal our daughter. Or his food. lol

Donald Mundt: Barks and wants to meet them as new friends if we are there.

Sheryl Rottink: Spins around and around in circles.

Nicole French: My cats sit by the door hoping to either escape or get fed.

Dan Lichty: Barks like crazy, then gives them a bath when they come in.

Jim Pawledge: I taught her that friends and family come right in, and strangers ring the door bell... so it's not a pretty sight. She looks like a Tasmanian devil. lol

Stacey L Rogers: Some run to the door, some run away from the door.

Everett Kimo Bromwich: He could care less. He's 14. Unless it's me or my wife... he doesn't care enough to break his nap cycle.

Volunteer Spotlight: Ken and Deb Allers

Ken and Deb Allers have helped out with nearly all of our events in the past year, and they always bring us great ideas about ways to help the animals. So when Ken volunteered to organize a Night at the RoughRiders fundraising event, we said, "Go for it!"
hand and paw
Ken and Deb threw themselves into making the fundraiser a reality, including coordinating with RoughRiders management, organizing a silent auction, getting the word out, and making sure it all went smoothly. On the big night, Ann Rude, Jillian Swain, and Meghan and Suzanne Pike volunteered to help out at the info booth in the lobby and monitor the silent auction.

It was a great night! Not only did the RoughRiders win, but our shelter animals did, too! The shelter received a portion of online ticket sales and all the proceeds from the silent auction. We're excited to report that plans are already underway for next year's Night at the RoughRiders.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this night a success, and a special thank you to Ken and Deb for always thinking of our animals!

Happy Tail: Sophie from Sac County Loves Snuggling and Green Beans!

Sophie, the dog in the middle, was one of the cocker spaniels rescued from horrible conditions on a Sac County property in 2012.

Despite some health challenges and issues with her eye, Sophie is very happy in her forever home. Her favorite activity is to sit and snuggle with her Dad. She also loves her sisters, Britta and Bobbie!

Another of her favorite things to do is to eat canned green beans. As soon as she sees the can opener come out of the drawer, she freaks out for the green beans. Britta and Bobbie like them too, but I think Sophie likes them more than she likes dog food. It's crazy!

Thank you all for bringing this beautiful girl into our lives!

Robin O.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

With dogs and people, it's love in big splashy colors. When you're involved with a cat, you're dealing in pastels.
