Chuck and JDI'd like to invite you to join us for our Holiday Open House this Sunday!

We're excited that caricaturist Kira Layli will be coming back again this year! Kira's fun, one-of-a-kind caricatures make the perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything. Caricatures are only $15 per face, and Kira is truly talented when it comes to drawing both pets and people.

So come on by between 2 and 5pm for coffee, cookies, and other holiday treats... get a caricature or just take a break from holiday shopping... and be sure to say hello to our staff, members of our board of directors, and our wonderful volunteers.

Thank you for your support. We're so pleased to be a part of this great community!

Happy holidays!

P.S. Now is a great time to catch the spirit of the season. Please take a moment to donate now!

Join us for our Holiday Open House!

We'll be serving up coffee, cookies, and other holiday yummies at our Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 8, from 2 to 5pm.

Once again, award-winning caricaturist Kira Layli will be creating fun and unique caricatures throughout the event.

Bring your kiddos (the two-legged and four-legged kind) and let Kira create an awesome, personalized holiday gift for your family. She can also draw from hard-copy photos if the kid-and-pet wrangling is too stressful. (Please no photographs on mobile devices, though! The small screens make it difficult to draw.)

A black-and-white or color caricature will set you back just $15 per face. (Two people = $30. Two pets = $30. One pet and one person = $30.) This year, there will be a limit of one drawing per sitting. If the schedule permits, we'll be happy to let you have a second sitting.

It's the feel-good event of the season...and a perfect way to pick up a one-of-a-kind gift! And if you have a little extra jingle in your pocket, you can drop some coin in our donation box. We guarantee you our shelter sweeties are on Santa's "nice" list!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Did your pet(s) pull any hijinks over Thanksgiving? (Drag the turkey off the table? Freak out the neighbors?)

Carl D Bromberg: Suri found the trash can at a friend's house!

Connie Janzan: Came home afterwards with a tote bag full of leftovers thanks to Mom. Set it on the floor just inside the door, went over to the fridge to move things around and make room. Heard something behind me, turned to find my little Pinky pulling a Rubbermaid container out of the tote with her teeth!! That little stinker! She didn't get anything open to actually eat anything, but she was trying (and it was kinda cute seeing her try!)

Jill R Cram: Except for an ill-timed fur ball, Adele was purrrrfect in every way.

Kathie Jessen: Came home at noon from an overnight stay at the hospital to find my daughter's chocolate Lab on the roof of the garage. It was an excited greeting for getting home! The ground slants up in back, but it looks like a two story house in front. Got some neighbors pretty worried!

Volunteer Spotlight: Anne Rude

Ann Rude has been volunteering for us since July. She has managed to put in more hours at the shelter than some of our part-time employees!

hand and pawAnn shares her compassion for animals by doing what most people won't-she comes in early mornings before work to clean dog kennels and cat condos. Ann probably thinks we aren't paying attention to her as she is cleaning, but we hear her soft voice talking to the animals as she works. The animals seem calmed and charmed at the same time. Kennel work is not easy, but Ann is more than happy to lend a hand whenever we need her. She even helped the week of Thanksgiving!

As you might imagine, we have loads upon loads of laundry every day. When one of our washers finally took its last breath, Ann came to our rescue and bought us a new one!

Ann, thank you for being so dedicated to our shelter animals! We greatly appreciate your generosity during this holiday season and beyond.

Happy Tail: Tyler (now Max) is Lab/Frog Mix

Our new Max, formerly Tyler, is energetic and lovable and happy. He enjoys tracking deer scents, running in the woods, digging holes, playing tag, tug of war and lying down in the creek while drinking at the same time.

He has finally managed to contain his impulse to chase our five cats and can now walk right by them. He loves people and only growls at tractors he has never met.

We know he is a Lab mix, and we think there is a little frog in him too! He is awesome, and we are really glad we adopted him.

Sincerely,

Chris J.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

Why not share with the world the way it is and tell them my feelings about my cat, and how I played with my kids, and how addicted to Christmas time I am, and the smell of pine needles and hearing my kids laugh.
