Featured Feline:
Tigger

Tigger
Tigger came to us in the middle of June because his owner was allergic. Tigger is an independent cat who gets along well with others. He enjoys being petted, but he would rather be in your lap than held in your arms. Tigger is still bouncy! He loves to play and bat noisy balls around. Stop in and meet this handsome fellow.
Compatible Canine:
Tilt

Tilt
Tilt is her name, and one look at her will tell you why! This happy girl came to us as a stray at the end of September. She is chock full of affection. (You can tell by the way she gives kisses!) Tilt is very curious of new surroundings. She loves toys and rawhides, but is very ladylike when presented with them. Tilt can be somewhat anxious on occasion, so be sure to ask our staff about how to help her with that. This energetic kiddo could use a little obedience training...but that's a great way to bond with her! Come meet Tilt today!

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding generosity of two remarkable organizations.

JANDA Motor Services is matching donations made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, up to $10,000, through the end of November! It is a magnificent gesture of support that highlights JANDA's confidence in our mission. I am also very pleased to recognize ITC, whose employees and CEO raised and donated $11,000 for our animals last month.

We find this level of support from area businesses incredibly inspiring. As a nonprofit organization, we are necessarily dependent on our community's generosity. We continue to provide crucial animal welfare services, and, as always, we will continue to work hard to earn your support for the animals.

Thank you!

Donate Now and Double Your Donation!

We're very excited that JANDA Motor Services has pledged to match donations made to us through the end of November--up to $10,000!

Supporting the Cedar Valley Humane Society is very personal for Mike Moran, owner of JANDA Motor Services. Mike adopted a dog named Dewey from us in 2010.

Dewey and his canine pal, Brutus, accompany Mike to work Donate Now bonein Cedar Rapids during the day. Mike also takes the dogs to the other JANDA Motor Services facilities in Davenport and Peoria.

"I get more compliments on Dewey than anything I do," says Mike, adding that adopting Dewey was a deeply satisfying experience. "He's a great-looking dog who has become a symbol of the type of lifelong friendships which result from the work the Cedar Valley Humane Society does."

We appreciate the support that Mike and JANDA Motor Services have offered us, as well as YOUR support! Please help us maximize the match so that we can continue to help animals in need. Donate today!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Have your pets ever left "gifts" for you at your door?

Leslie Thomas: Turkey carcass from the neighbors' Thanksgiving!!

Bob Wernimont: A stray mommy cat that came to our door every night around sundown showed up with a duplicate little mini of her. Brought us her kitten. We don't know exactly what happened to momma, but she knew we would take care of her little one. We named her little girl Sox, and she is traveling the country with us in the motorhome.

Michelle Schaffer: During harvest we get 3-4 mice per day. We've nicknamed Cleo "Terminator Kitty."

Rachel Green: Headless lizards were the worst so far.

Diane Constantine: Huh. I was gonna say no, but then looked at some other comments and realized that would be an inadvertent lie. The dogs have left me presents under the Christmas tree...a smaller version of a yule log, if you will. I've had to take away what was left of bunnies (usually just the head), voles, etc.

Diane Yeager: Let's see.... There was a deer antler that was shed, various deer parts, a possum playing possum, a mole, and, my personal favorite, "something dead." Couldn't tell what it was, but the smell stuck with the dog for a couple of days. Then there was my parents' cat who brought my mother a mouse--already dead in the trap. Gotta love how they honor us!

Volunteer Spotlight: Mary Allen

Mary Allen has been volunteering with us for more than two years. She faithfully comes to the shelter every Monday night, no matter hand and pawthe weather. Mary's contagious laugh and sense of humor really lighten up our evening after a long Monday!

Mary makes follow-up calls to people who have reported missing pets to see if the pets have found their way home. In addition, she finds time to walk dogs, even when it is cold outside and snowing. She also brushes and socializes the cats, answers the phone, and helps potential customers.

As if that weren't enough, Mary shares her love and talent for crafting by decorating and assembling vases and centerpieces for special events.

Thank you, Mary, for all you do to make our days just a little brighter, and for the love and attention you shower on our animals!

Happy Tail: Eight-Year-Old Blu Thinks He's a Puppy

We just wanted to let y'all know that Blu has settled in nicely with our family.

For a dog that is eight years old, he sure thinks he's a puppy! During the day, Blu plays with his rawhide bone. He likes to throw it up in the air. He also likes to take it to Daddy (my hubby) who will play tug with it. Then he'll bring it to me to do the same.

Blu and my hubby also sing together, although when I walk in, Blu will stop. He has yet to bark at me, with the exception of a grrrooof as a "Good morning!" (Not really a bark, but it's too cute.) He loves to give kisses to me and jumps and catches his treats when he's a good dog.

Blu's favorite thing is to go for a ride. In fact, he was having such a hard time getting into the truck that we went out and bought a brand-new truck with side runners that Blu can step up on. He gets along really well with our cat. They sleep by each other during the day in their beds.

Thank you for letting us adopt Blu. He brings so much joy to our family! Thank you again.
