Featured Feline: Lola
Lola was brought to our care at the beginning of May. She is a gorgeous girl who loves to have her long locks brushed. She also enjoys snuggle and play time! Lola is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, so she can be brought home for only $45. Stop out and meet this lovely girl today! |
Compatible Canine: Archer
Originally a stray, Archer transferred into our care in early October. He digs car rides, so if you're looking for someone to ride shotgun, you may want to think about this guy! Archer is a really cool dog who does well with people of all ages. He gets along with most other dogs, too, but he can be a little choosy about them. The first step is for you to come in and meet Archer! |
Please come visit me and my friends!

I can't believe how fast 2013 is going by! Next week another Halloween will be coming around, so here are a few tips to help keep the holiday safe for your pets.
First of all, be sure to keep your pets inside. If you anticipate a lot of trick-or-treaters, remember that frequent doorbell ringing and strangers in odd costumes can potentially stress your pets. Try to keep them in a quiet room with familiar, favorite objects, such as their toys and their bed.
Keep pets away from the candy bowl. Not only can candy make them sick, but items such as chocolate are actually toxic to pets. (Make sure your kids don't sneak candy to the pets, either!)
Jack-o-lanterns and candles can be a fire hazard, so keep them out of your pets' range. A strong, wagging tail or a frightened cat running through the house can easily knock over a candle-lighted jack-o-lantern.
We wish you a very happy Halloween, and we thank you for your support!
On behalf of the animals,
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. Through November 30, JANDA Motor Services will match your donation, up to $10,000. Please take a moment and donate now! |

Donate Now and Double Your Donation!
We're very excited that JANDA Motor Services has pledged to match donations made to us through the end of November--up to $10,000! Supporting the Cedar Valley Humane Society is very personal for Mike Moran, owner of JANDA Motor Services. Mike adopted a dog named Dewey from us in 2010. Dewey and his canine pal, Brutus, accompany Mike to work in Cedar Rapids during the day. Mike also takes the dogs to the other JANDA Motor Services facilities in Davenport and Peoria. "I get more compliments on Dewey than anything I do," says Mike, adding that adopting Dewey was a deeply satisfying experience. "He's a great-looking dog who has become a symbol of the type of lifelong friendships which result from the work the Cedar Valley Humane Society does." We appreciate the support that Mike and JANDA Motor Services have offered us, as well as YOUR support! Please help us maximize the match so that we can continue to help animals in need. Volunteer Spotlight: Gabby Hughes
Gabby Hughes has only been volunteering for a few months, but she has quickly made herself indispensable.
Gabby lights up our days with her sincere love and affection for all our animals. She walks dogs, socializes cats, and h elps show dogs to potential adopters. When a part-time customer care associate position recently became available, we thought she was perfect for the job, so we snatched her right up!
In addition to working at our front desk five days a week, Gabby still manages to take the time to volunteer at community events. Her great enthusiasm and big smile are definitely contagious.
Thank you, Gabby, for all you do for us and our shelter sweeties! |
Happy Tail: Papa Mia (now Stretch) Stretches Out in His New Place
We adopted Papa Mia (now Stretch) back in July.
He has been a great addition to the family. He took to the family right away, like he has owned us his whole life! He was never scared, not for one minute. He came in checked out the house then flopped down in the middle of the floor and stretched out as far as he could.
We highly recommend your facility and all you do for the animals. Thank you so much for the newest member of our family!
The Bergs
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
