Featured Feline:
Walter

Walter's owner brought him to us in mid-September because she was no longer able to care for him. Walter is a curious boy who is always interested in new things that cross his path. (He'll sniff the new thing, and occasionally pick it up and run!) Walter would love to share quality time with you by snuggling in your lap. Come meet this beautiful sweetie pie today!
Compatible Canine:
Quita

Quita
Quita was transferred into our care mid-August. She is a sassy girl who loves to be the center of attention. Quita adores being outside, so a fenced-in backyard, or long hikes would do wonders for her mood. She can also be won over by some cuddle time on the couch with a couple of treats (what girl wouldn't?!). Because Quita is such an attention queen, it is recommended that she go home to a mature household that has experience with dogs. Please come by today to fall in love with this marvelous gal!

Greetings!

Chuck and Duke We asked, and you answered!

On September 1, we reached out to the community to help us accomplish a very ambitious goal: to raise $30,000 in 30 days.

I am very pleased to announce that-- thanks to all of you!-- we reached our goal six days early! This generosity...this compassion... has made it clear that you value the vital services that the Cedar Valley Humane Society provides to our communities.

But with six days left in September, let's not stop now! Help us keep this amazing momentum going!

If you've already donated to our campaign, we thank you, and we hope you are further inspired to get your friends, family, and business associates involved.

On behalf of the animals, thank you for your support now and in the future.

P.S. Don't forget about the Blue Toad fundraiser from 6-8pm tonight! The Blue Toad and the guest bartenders will donate all tips from the bar and dining room to the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge! See you there!

$30,000 in 30 Days? YOU DID IT!

Hoops and all his friends are doing the happy dance!

Our goal was to raise $30,000 in September... and TODAY, we hit that mark! (We'll have a more formal update for our next e-newsletter, but for now...YAY!)

We're so excited about this success, but we still have six more days in September! So let's keep the giving going, because there's no telling how much more we can raise between now and September 30.

Check out our FirstGiving page if you haven't already. With FirstGiving, you can create your own personal page and tell everyone why you are passionate about helping our shelter animals and ask them to support you in reaching the goal you set for yourself. (Plus, you may also donate directly.)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! As we always say, we can't do all we do for the animals without you!

Come to the Blue Toad Tonight!

Here's a fun way to keep the giving going!

The Blue Toad is helping raise funds for our $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge!

Volunteers will be guest bartending tonight from 6-8pm. ALL TIPS--from both the bar and dining area!--will be donated to help animals at the Cedar Valley Humane Society! And as if that weren't enough... $2 of every Scooby Snack or Salty Dog shot will be donated. (You know you want one!)

The Blue Toad is in the heart of the Czech Village at 86 16th Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids. So round up the neighbors (all the fun ones, plus a sensible one to be the designated driver...), and have a tasty dinner and a Scooby Snack or three...and tip heavily!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
How do your pet(s) react to music?

Bob Wernimont: Cat seems to prefer country over rock.

Michelle Schaffer: Classical causes them to stretch out, roll on their back, exposing tummies and close eyes. It seems to be kitty nirvana to them.

Diane Yeager: One of my cats likes to sit on top of the piano when I play. I assume he enjoys the vibrations. My dachshund gets right up in my face when I sing. Not too sure what to make out of that....

Carol Kress: ANY time I played the piano my cat would cry as if her ears were aching!

Lara Moellers: My cats don't mind music, but they are a little disturbed when I start dancing to it.

Loni Ellsworth: My senior cat falls asleep instantly when I turn on classical music. It's adorable!

Volunteer Spotlight: Ken and Deb Allers

hand and paw Ken and Deb Allers have been volunteering for us for approximately a year now.

Ken volunteers at the shelter every Monday, which is one of our busiest adoption days. (Both Deb and Ken come in on Monday during the summer.)

These wonderful ambassadors also contribute countless hours to off-site events. Their friendly, outgoing personalities have helped raise thousands of dollars for our homeless animals at community events. Additionally, they lend a hand at new volunteer orientations, modeling their t-shirts and sharing volunteer experiences.

Ken and Deb have a contest between each other to see who can help get the most animals adopted. (So far Ken is ahead by one!)

Deb and Ken, we cannot thank you enough for being so genuine and enthusiastic about our mission. And for sharing that magnificent enthusiasm with everyone you meet!

Happy Tail: Lazy Paisley Runs Laps and Naps

Paisley
Paisley, formerly known as Patsy, has been doing awesome.

She loves to sleep, eat, eat ice cubes, and play a little. She is very lazy and sleeps anywhere she can get comfy. She gets these energy spurts where she runs laps around the house for about five minutes, and then it's time for another nap.

She gets along with everyone and loves to smell everyone that walks in the door. Thank you guys so much. We love her!

Barb Z.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
