Featured Feline: Benny
Benny came to us as a stray in mid-May. He is an energetic fellow who loves to play with toys. Benny is still young, so he can be quite rambunctious. He likes to be held and cuddled. (It's up to him if it is playtime or nap time...because he really likes his naps!) Benny is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, so he can be brought home for only $45. Stop out and meet this guy today! |
Compatible Canine: Cloe
Cloe's owner brought her to us in mid-July. She is a very affectionate, lovable girl. Give her some special attention (like a belly rub!) and she will be putty in your hands. Cloe enjoys her outdoor time, so a game of catch or a long walk would make her day. Stop in to meet this charismatic girl! |

Greetings!
On September 1, the Cedar Valley Humane Society reached out to our supporters to help us achieve a very ambitious goal: to raise $30,000 in 30 days.
I am very pleased to announce that the community's response has been both dramatic and inspiring! As of today, through your generosity, we are a third of the way to our goal, and we are very encouraged.
But we still have a long way to go... and plenty of month to get there!
Help us keep this great momentum going! If you have already donated, we thank you, and we hope you are further inspired to get your friends, family, and business associates involved. You can be assured that when you give to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, you are donating to an organization that is making a difference.
On behalf of the animals, I thank you for your continuing support during this vital fundraising campaign.
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. If you would rather send us a check than donate online, we can still apply it to the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge. Just write 30K in 30 Days on the check's memo line! |

Help Us Raise $30,000 in 30 Days!
From September 1 to 30, our goal is to raise $30,000! It can cost between $200 and $300--or even more--to take care of an animal during its length of stay with us. That's because once an animal is in our adoption program, we commit to finding that animal a permanent home, no matter how long it takes. The animal gets routine medical care and vaccinations, as well as any critical care it may need. All of this really adds up! And if that weren't enough, right now we have several capital improvements that must be taken care of:
- Our decades-old septic system servicing the east side of our shelter must be replaced.
- We need to landscape our north lot where we replaced our west septic system last fall.
- We need tires for our animal control vehicle.
- We need to remove several aging trees.
- Our water pressure tank must be replaced.
Between all these must-do projects and taking care of the animals, our expenses have nearly doubled in the short term. That's where you come in. Please help us by raising money during the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge. Our FirstGiving page makes it easy for you raise funds by using your social networks. Please check it out, and help us by involving your friends and family in your passion for helping animals. With FirstGiving, you can create your own personal page and tell everyone why you are passionate about helping our shelter animals and ask them to support you in reaching the goal you set for yourself. (Plus, you may also donate directly.) We know...$30,000 sounds like a lot of money, right? (And it is!) But think about it. What if 500 people donated $60? Or 1,000 people donated $30? Or 3,000 people donated just $10? We know that if you help us reach more people... engage more people in our mission... we can reach $30,000 together! As we always say, we can't do all we do for the animals without you! |
We Asked, You Answered!
What do you do with your pet(s) when you go out of town or on vacation?
Shirley Hadenfeldt: Take them with me or I don't go.
Kay Lafler: We take her (beagle) or leave her with a family member who loves her, or my neighbor who loves her.
Heidi Dengler-Elliott: My kids come and take care of them. After all, they are their siblings!
Kirsten Lenth: They go to grandpa's farm!
Jenaayye Lae: Timed cat feeder if it is for a short time. Otherwise, a cat sitter.
Diane Yeager: My first choice is a pet sitter to live at the house. If that isn't possible, I board the dogs and have someone check on the cats at least every couple of days. The critters are all OK with being boarded, but miss the freedom of living in the woods on 25 acres where they can roam and swim in the river should they choose.

Volunteer Spotlight: Collette Darden
Collette Darden (aka: Crazy Cat Lady) has been volunteering for us since the beginning of time!
Collette spends every Saturday volunteering as a Community Relations and Adoption Counselor at the shelter. From open until close, she helps out the front desk staff by matching the right cat or kitten with potential adopters and answering many questions adopters have about cat care. She also fosters kittens who need to be bottle fed and cats with behavioral issues.
Each week, Collette brings food and snacks for our staff and volunteers, as well as toys and treats for the animals! Rain, sleet or snow, she is always there with a smile and ready to tackle whatever each Saturday brings.
In addition to being a valued front desk and animal care volunteer, Collette serves on our Board of Directors. Collette, we cannot thank you enough for all you do! |
Happy Tail: Ruth (now Hennepin) Loves to Kiss Chins
We thought we would send you an update about Ruth the Chihuahua.
We renamed her Hennepin, which she caught onto almost immediately. We decided on that name because the other two dogs that we've had we have named after places that we lived. We had Roxi (Denver) and Wrigley (Chicago) and Hennepin (Minneapolis).
Hennepin has definitely made a home with us. She loves to follow me (Marnie, also the only other female in the house) around the best. She is always a foot behind me, right next to me, or on my lap. She also loves both my husband and our son Liam and shows them both so much affection as well. She loves to give kisses on our chins.
Hennepin and Wrigley also get along just fine. Wrigley is 11 years old and pretty much just tolerates her, but we definitely see them working as a team most of the time. (Hennepin gets more play time with the humans, though.)
We are so happy that she fit right into our home, and she is obviously happy to be with us.
Thank you for helping us find her. She's added so much joy to our family!
Thanks again!
The M. Family
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
