Featured Feline:
Nemo

Nemo
Nemo came to us as a stray at the beginning of June. He is a very sweet boy who loves his lovin'! He also enjoys a good conversation. (On his end, it's mostly about tuna and laser lights, but he's a pretty good listener, too.) This adorable boy will roll over and become a playful kitten right before your eyes. Stop out and let him greet you with a meow! (Maybe instead of chatting about tuna, he'll talk about how he wants to come home with you.)

Compatible Canine:
Autumn

Autumn
Autumn came into our care as a stray in early August. This sweetie is very food motivated, so we think she would be easy to train. She is eager to please (just keep those treats a'comin'!), and she already knows sit and shake! Autumn is a very curious girl, who enjoys attention after she has had a chance to explore her surroundings. She has energy a-plenty, so we think she would be a great family dog. (A fenced-in yard, a couple of kids to run around with, and Autumn is a tired and happy girl.) Stop by and meet Autumn today!

Greetings!

Chuck and Mittens Our first priority is to house, feed, and provide medical care--both routine and critical--for the animals we take in.

But in order to continue fulfilling our mission, we need to ask for your help in a way we never have before.

During the month of September, the Cedar Valley Humane Society will be asking you to use social media to help us raise $30,000 in 30 days.

It costs a significant amount of money every month to do what we do for all the animals in our care. Not only do we pay local veterinarians to set broken bones, remove tumors, and the like (medical issues that many shelters will not treat), once an animal is in our adoption program, we are committed to finding that animal a permanent home no matter how long it takes.

Please be assured that when you give to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, you are donating to an organization that is making a difference in the lives of homeless animals.

Thanks in advance for participating in the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge. We are confident that, with your help, this ambitious goal can be achieved.

P.S. Not into online fundraising? The old-fashioned way still works! Take up a collection at the office or around the neighborhood and bring the money to the shelter. Every little bit will help us meet our $30,000 goal!

$30 Cat Adoption Special this Weekend Only

DianaWe're kicking off the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge with a $30 cat adoption special!

This Friday through Sunday, adopt any adult cat (six months or older) for only $30! We have more than 50 cats to choose from, and as they go to their new homes, we'll move more into their place. (Yep, we're just that full!)

We're open from noon to 7pm on Friday, and noon to 5pm on the weekend. (Closed Labor Day.)

Don't miss your chance to get a furry feline friend for only $30... Friday, August 30 through Sunday, September 1 only! (Standard adoption processes apply.)

Join the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge!

From September 1 to 30, our goal is to raise $30,000, which is Caseyroughly the amount it takes to provide care for all our shelter animals for 30 days.

It can cost between $200 and $300--or even more--to take care of an animal during its length of stay with us. That's because once an animal is in our adoption program, we commit to finding that animal a permanent home, no matter how long it takes. The animal gets routine medical care and vaccinations, as well as any critical care it may need. All of this really adds up!

And if that weren't enough, right now we have several capital improvements that must be taken care of:
  • Our decades-old septic system servicing the east side of our shelter must be replaced.
  • We need to landscape our north lot where we replaced our west septic system last fall.
  • We need tires for our animal control vehicle.
  • We need to remove several aging trees.
  • Our water pressure tank must be replaced.
Between all these must-do projects and taking care of the animals, our expenses have nearly doubled in the short term. That's where you come in.

Please help us by raising money during the $30,000 in 30 Days Challenge.
Blue Eyes
Our FirstGiving page makes it easy for you raise funds by using your social networks. Please check it out, and help us by involving your friends and family in your passion for helping animals. With FirstGiving, you can create your own personal page and tell everyone why you are passionate about helping our shelter animals and ask them to support you in reaching the goal you set for yourself. (Plus, you may also donate directly.)

We know...$30,000 sounds like a lot of money, right? (And it is!) But think about it. What if 500 people donated $60? Or 1,000 people donated $30? Or 3,000 people donated just $10? We know that if you help us reach more people... engage more people in our mission... we can reach $30,000 together!

As we always say, we can't do all we do for the animals without you!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Which season does your pet like the best, and why?

Wolf Hogen: Spring and fall. They get to go outside into the yard without it being too hot or cold.

Carl D Bromberg: My Labs, the spring and fall. My Huskie LOVES winter, and the more snow the better!

Alison McNamara: Any time of year as long as there are rabbits to chase. He loves winter snow drifts. Likes to plow his 15 pounds into them and shovel snow with his nose.

Sara Heng AboZena: Spring. Their arthritis pain gets a lot better, and it's not too hot. They get a ton of outside time then.

Jason Vincent: Fall, just like their daddy!

Volunteer Spotlight: Lois Yoerger

hand and pawLois Yoerger has been volunteering for us since 2009, and we can't begin to guess the thousands of hours she has put in for the animals.

Lois spends every Thursday volunteering as a Community Relations and Adoption Counselor at the shelter. From open until close, she helps out the front desk staff by showing animals to potential adopters and making follow-up calls to recent adopters. She makes sure everything is going well with the new furry family member and alerts staff if the adopter has any concerns.

In addition to being a valued front desk team member, Lois brings a dog to Farmers State Bank to provide pet therapy once a month. While at the bank, she collects donations for the animals at the shelter.

Lois, from the bottom of the thousands of hearts you have touched, we say, "Thank You!"

Happy Tail: Jude (now Bacio) is a Lover

Bacio falling asleep in Denny's arms

We adopted Jude on Sunday, June 23. We renamed him Bacio (bah-cho), the Italian word for kiss, because he's such a lover. (It suits him, don't you think?)

We LOVE him and are so grateful to all of you at the Cedar Valley Humane Society for bringing this new love into our life! Thanks especially to Heather for introducing me to him!

The timing was perfect because I broke my ankle the Wednesday before we adopted him, and Bacio has kept me company. He likes to lick my toes next to the cast.

Here he is falling asleep in Denny's arms.

Thanks again!

Karla and Denny G.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!

Perhaps it is because cats do not live by human patterns, do not fit themselves into prescribed behavior, that they are so united to creative people.
