Featured Feline: Puddy
Puddy came to us as a stray at the beginning of May. This sweetie is very energetic, and he loves to play with cat toys. Part of his playtime is to hide the toys when he's done, so no other kitty can play with them. Puddy is quite a friendly boy, and he enjoys being held. His second favorite thing is to look out the window. (It's fun to watch his head go back and forth as he takes in all the excitement!) Puddy is also part of our Lonely Hearts Club so you can take him home for only $45.

Compatible Canine: Julie
Julie came to us in the middle of June. This sweet thing loves to go for walks and does really well on a leash. (She also likes to stop and listen to noises she has never heard before!) She is an energetic girl who gets along well with everyone. (Kisses! Kisses!) Julie is smaller than you might expect for her age, and she's quite the little cuddlebug |

Greetings!
There is a great new way to donate to the Cedar Valley Humane Society and help the animals!
If you have an old car, truck, motorcycle, boat with a trailer, or RV, consider donating it to the Cedar Valley Humane Society through Donate for Charity's vehicle donation program. (Your vehicle does NOT have to be in working condition!)
Just go to www.donateforcharity.com to start the process and select the Cedar Valley Humane Society as the receiving charity. Your donated vehicle will be picked up (at no charge) and sold at auction, and our shelter animals will receive 70-80% of the net proceeds. It's yet another way that you can make a difference in the lives of animals at our shelter.
We always appreciate your support in whatever form you choose, whether it be through our fundraising events, Loyal Supporters Program, online donations, or adopting an animal. Thank you!
On behalf of the animals-
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. Even if you don't have a vehicle to donate, you can make a difference for our shelter animals! Please take a moment to donate now! |

We Asked, You Answered!
When did you first realize you were an "animal person"?
Diane Yeager: When I was about seven. My family would go to visit my aunt and uncle, and I am 12 years younger than my cousins (all boys). No one for me to play with so I spent every minute with Pepper Ann, their tiger cat. We played for hours.
Debbie Heaton: When I realized that they have feelings, emotions, and souls just like us. If you like people, you have to love animals. They love unconditionally, and they need our help.
Virginia Balvanz-Krull: As a child I didn't care for dolls as much as I loved my stuffed animals. I've always had fur friends.
Jill R Cram: Animals (tame, farm and wild) have always followed me around, so I guess they decided I was OK. I like cats and wild birds the best, though.
Second Chance Dog Rescue: As soon as I knew what that meant. I can never remember when I wasn't crazy about animals.

Volunteer Spotlight: Interns!
Jessica Landuyt, Rachel MacDonald, and Stephanie Schmitz are students in Kirkwood's Animal Health/Humane Officer program. They each chose to do their summer internships with us.
While the internships are a required part of the Kirkwood curriculum, the interns' work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile was impressive. They all worked hard each and every day, which made the summer uptick in animals much easier to manage. They helped clean every morning; in the afternoon, they assisted with medical exams and behavior evaluations. They also had the opportunity to ride along on animal control calls throughout the three months they were here.
Stephanie, Rachel, and Jessica, it was great having you on board! We wish you all the best in your future careers! |
Happy Tail: Willow at Home with Family
I wanted to let you know we adore Willow, the Great Pyrenees/Siberian Husky mix I adopted. Willow has made herself at home in our house. Willow and Carly, my daughter, go for jogs on one of the many bike paths at Lake Red Rock. (We live close to this wonderful system of parks in Pella.)
Franky, our Bichon, is also enjoying his new dog pal - and we are enjoying the long walks together. Thank you very much for helping us find Willow - she is a great new member of our family.
Also - thanks for all the care and support you offer so many animals in need. And special congrats on the how well you use social media and websites to feature new pets and opportunities for support. We saw Willow's face on Petfinder, and we were quite taken with her.
Best,
Cindy S.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
