Featured Feline: Max
Max was brought to us by his heartbroken family in mid-May. This mellow fellow is very cuddly and loves his loving! His favorite activity is to climb up into your lap and settle down for a nice long purr-fest. He is a pretty vocal cat who will let you know when he needs attention. (Mostly he just wants to be wherever YOU are...he can help with paperwork, typing, watching TV, and just about everything!) As an older gentleman, Max is a member of our Silver Paws Club, so his adoption fee is only $75.

Compatible Canine: Chumlee
Chumlee transferred into our care at the end of June. He is a very social little dog who loves to be around people of all ages. He is high-spirited and loves to go for walks, but he will need some help with basic obedience. Chumlee likes to be held and cuddled. Stop out and meet this cute boy today! |

Greetings!
Get swingin'!
We're hosting our fourth annual Drives for Lives golf outing on August 1.
Last year, the fundraiser drew a full field, and we raised more than $7,000 for the animals! Getting a foursome (or two!) together for Drives for Lives is a great way to help the animals and have fun all at the same time. (You'll find more details in this newsletter.)
We hope you'll join us and help make this the most successful Drives for Lives ever! Thank you again for your support.
On behalf of the animals-
Chuck Tourtillott Executive Director P.S. Golf not your thing? Our homeless animals can still use your help! Please take a moment to donate today! |

We Asked, You Answered!
The Fourth of July is coming up. How do your pets react to fireworks?
Robyn Cox: Terrified. Spent quite some time last night settling them down because the neighbors were letting off fireworks. Thundershirt works for one of them to a certain degree (he stops bolting around the house barking in terror and just tries to find a place to hide with the shirt on) and does not work at all for my other noise-phobic dog.
Amber Cornwell: Tries to crawl into my skin with me....
Nicole French: My cats will do one of two things: sit in the window to watch or completely ignore the outside world. Luckily they are not scaredy cats!
Alison Pillard: We have one dog that is terrified (he is also afraid of thunder) and one dog that's never seen them because when we leave the house, we can't just take one dog, of course! lol
Paige Junge: Our Stella, a very small cocker spaniel, tries to attack them. She adopts her "bulldog" stance to look tough and barks as viciously as a cocker spaniel can. She hasn't caught one yet.

Volunteer Spotlight: Lena and Michael Posthuma
Lena and Michael Posthuma help the animals in many ways!
This dynamic duo comes in on their days off work to spend time socializing cats and walking dogs. (They like to divide their time equally between different types of animals!) They also provide pet therapy for one of the schools we serve, which means a lot to the children they visit.
In addition, Lena facilitates our dog handling classes, and Michael is her right-hand man. Lena is invaluable to teaching new volunteers how to read the dogs and fit them with harnesses. Both she and Michael familiarize the new volunteers with the shelter's trails.
Lena and Michael have volunteered at the Cedar Valley Humane Society for many years, and we appreciate all they have done! A heartfelt THANK YOU from all of us! |
Happy Tail: Camy and Derek (now Murphy) Happy in New Home
I just wanted to let you see how Derek (now Murphy) and Camy are adjusting to their new home. They seem to be happy, and we are so happy that they have come to live with us. I want to thank you for taking such good care of them before they came to us!
Alan and Karen P.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
