Featured Feline:
Brea

Brea
Brea was brought to us by her owner in mid-December. She is an independent kitty who loves to curl up in a really warm and fluffy pet bed! Brea likes to be petted, but she prefers not to be picked up. When she wants her loving, she will lean into you and tilt her head up so you can reach under her chin and scratch her favorite spot! Brea is a member of our exclusive Lonely Hearts Club, so she can be adopted for only $45!

Compatible Canine:
Henrietta

Henrietta
Henrietta came to us as a stray at the beginning of February. Henrietta will need some leash training, because she is a very big, strong girl! She is food-motivated, so we think basic training should go fairly smoothly. Because of her size and strength, we recommend that any children in the family be at least 15 years old. She also needs to be in a home without cats. Henrietta loves to lie down with a tasty rawhide and will chew on it until it's all gone. She's got a lot of love to give, so bring the family to meet her!

Greetings!

Chuck and CocoAnother Whine & Wags Auction is behind us! This year's event was extra special, as we added a live auction and hosted the event at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.

Our largest fundraiser of the year generated substantial interest and enthusiasm from the community. We surpassed our goal of 150 attendees--we sold more than 200 tickets and had people wanting to pre-register up to the very last minute.

Best of all, the Whine & Wags Auction raised almost $18,000 for the animals! It was a fun and exciting evening, and the abundant generosity serves as a testament to the wonderful community that we live in.

So to all the attendees, donors, volunteers, and staff who helped make the Whine & Wags Auction an outstanding success, we at the Cedar Valley Humane Society want to express our sincere gratitude to you on behalf of all the animals currently in our care...and the many more that we will see in the future.

On behalf of the animals-

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Monday was National Napping Day! Where are your pets' favorite napping spots?

Angela Warren: In front of the fireplace, our bed or the couch. They have a rough life.

Moriah J. Schild: On the couch that she's not supposed to be on....

Chris Turkovich: Neko the fat black cat sits on the heater vent by the window with a view of the front yard.

Mik Bogard: At my feet or on my pillow while I am trying to sleep!!!

Karen Althoff: Caught my cat napping on my kitchen table in top of clean folded clothes when I got home from work this afternoon.

Brian Ralston: Right on any part of me. The three of them (used to be five before we had to say goodbye to two of them this past year) battle for positioning and not caring if I am comfortable or not! But I don't mind, that's what a "furmily" is for!

Volunteer Spotlight: Kelli Kennon-Lane

hand and pawThere is no stopping Kelli Kennon-Lane! Kelli is a high school teacher who puts her skills to use by training other volunteers. She helps at volunteer orientations and helps give tours for new volunteers. She assists in cleaning our cat adoption areas as well.

Kelli also helps at event after event after event. She is so energetic, she motivates others to want to help! She has a huge personality and huge heart. Kelli, you are one of the greatest ambassadors for our shelter. Thank you so much for absolutely everything!

Happy Tail: Macy Makes her New Family Happy

MacyThank you for Macy the cat. We love her so much. We took her to the vet, and she is doing great.

Macy loves playing with her toys. Macy lives in a big and beautiful home. She loves walking around and looking at everything. Macy gets lots of attention. Macy has made us so happy. Thanks again for all the good things you do for pets.

When the weather gets better, Macy is going to visit the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. I'm sure everyone living there will be happy to see Macy. Macy does such cute things, and everyone there will be smiling when they see her.
