Featured Feline:
Luther

Luther
Luther's owner was moving in mid-October and couldn't bring Luther along, so she brought him to us. Luther is a very social kitty, and after he has a chance to sniff you over, he wants all of your attention! Luther will start to purr when he wants to cuddle. He doesn't like quick movements, so he can a little shy with children. He is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, so he can be brought home for only $45. Stop in and meet this sweet hunk today!

Jake
Jake came into our care as a stray at the end of December. He is a very energetic boy who loves to run around the yard. Jake has two types of favorite toys--the squeaky kind and the really squeaky kind! He loves to toss them in the air and try and figure out where they landed. This sweet boy is ready for his forever home, so come meet him!

Greetings!

Chuck and CocoThink adoption first!

Getting this message out is always a challenge, but in 2012, the Cedar Valley Humane Society adopted nearly 1,100 animals to loving families.

Adoption is our goal for every healthy and treatable animal that comes through our door. Our staff and volunteers do all they can to make our shelter a place where visitors feel welcome, animals are provided the very best possible care, and interaction between people and pets is both enjoyable and informative.

In 2013, we expect to place even more animals with families by continuing to provide exceptional adoption services and by expanding our key programs, which are already changing so many animals' lives each day.

Please help us spread the word about our adoption services. Remember, there's no better feeling than opening your heart and home to an animal in need.

Jordan Sanders Raises Nearly $700 for the Animals

Jordan Sanders and Chuck TourtillottFor the third Christmas in a row, Jordan Sanders has raised money to help the animals at the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

This year, the 11-year-old Jordan baked, packaged, and sold more than 3,000 holiday goodies. She marketed her Neapolitans, chocolate-orange truffles, spritz cookies, and dipped pretzels to her family and friends and their coworkers.

Jordan sold more than 450 packages of treats, all festively packaged and tied with a pretty ribbon. Her sales totaled a whopping $672--double her last year's donation!--all of which went to provide food and medical care to Jordan and a few of her baked treatsour shelter animals.

We are so honored to have Jordan contribute so much of her time, talents and energy to helping our shelter animals! It is truly wonderful to see young people support us in such a big way!

Seeking Whine & Wags Auction Supporters!

Of course we want you to attend the Whine & Wags Auction, but there are three ways you can support the event before the big night!
Whine & Wags logo
Underwriting is a great way to get involved in Whine & Wags. Underwriting donations help pay the costs of the event and allow the money raised through ticket and auction sales to go directly to helping the animals. Underwriting includes two complimentary tickets to the event. There are several levels at which you can participate, from $150 to $3,000+.

We're always looking for new fun and exciting auction items. Donating items is a great way to help the animals! Items can be pet-oriented, but they don't have to be. (Some of our biggest draws are sports-related, like Hawkeye tickets and autographed memorabilia.) Whine & Wags attendeesDonated items are tax deductible, and your generosity will be acknowledged in the auction program if you would like.

You can also advertise your business in the auction program. The cost for promoting your business is very reasonable, from $100 for a quarter page ad to $300 for a full page. It's a great way to reach pet lovers who support our cause!

We would like to have all the donations locked in by February 8, so don't delay! To learn more, contact Bernie Lettington at [email protected].

With your help, Whine & Wags 2013 will be more successful than ever!

We Asked, You Answered!

We asked icon
Do you have a framed photo of your pet on the wall or sitting on top of your TV or other piece of furniture?

Rachel E. Grimm: One of each dog on my cube wall at work.

Nor Meyer: Several of former pets, and a screen saver slide show of current two dogs.

Grace Calvert: Absolutely! We got a portrait done of our three original cats, and then got a portrait done of our fourth cat. The original three cats are in a huge framed portrait hanging on our wall. The fourth cat is a smaller portrait in a smaller frame on our entertainment center. We got their portraits done for a CVHS fundraiser a long time ago.

Susan Harthun: At home and at work, also on my phone. They are always close by!

Bobbi Smiley: I have a picture of her in a frame and in my phone.

Volunteer Spotlight: Susan Teachout, Danielle Strong, Rachael White, and Michelle Benke

hand and pawKudos to Susan Teachout, Danielle Strong, Rachael White, and Michelle Benke for putting together the First Annual Chili Supper Fundraiser.

This hardworking team met several times over the past few months in an effort to pull this event together. They were in charge of finding a venue, cooking the chili, getting all the supplies needed, decorations, and everything else.

The event brought in way more people than expected, and all proceeds directly benefited our shelter animals.

Great job, ladies! Thank you for all the effort you put forth to make the chili supper fundraiser a reality. We cannot thank you enough!

Happy Tail: Shellie (now Eliza Doolittle) is Adored by Family

Shellie with her new familyShellie, who I renamed Eliza Doolittle, is truly amazing!

My son and our other dog adore her. She grumbles in her sleep, and she is easily trained. She has a personality like me, plus... she loves the snow! (LOVES it!)

Thanks so much for our new addition.

Rosie V.

Remember, YOU can
send us your Happy Tail, too!
