Featured Feline: Macy
Macy came to us in the middle of April because she was not getting along with the dogs in the house. She can be very independent, but she also likes to be held and loved. Macy would prefer a home without dogs, but she gets along with children perfectly fine. Perhaps the entire family could come meet her! Macy is a member of our exclusive Lonely Hearts Club, so you can bring her home for only $45!

Compatible Canine: Kenzi
Kenzi, formerly known as Flower, originally came to us at the beginning of September as a stray. She was returned to us in early December due to her family's changing circumstances. Kenzi loves to be told she's doing a good job. When she gets positive reinforcement she turns into the happiest dog ever! Sometimes she just can't contain her emotions and her whole body wiggles. Kenzi would love to have a family she calls her own, so come on in and meet her! |

Greetings!
Thanks to supporters like you, this holiday season is much happier for a great many animals.
Throughout 2012, your generous donations have helped us adopt out more animals and save more lives than any time in our 111 year history!
We have indeed been busy this year, not only finding new homes for animals in need, but with a variety of other programs.
Our volunteers visited schools to talk about safety around animals and other pet-related topics.
Through our pet therapy program, volunteers brought animals to assisted living facilities to brighten the lives of residents who otherwise would not experience the company of a friendly, loving companion animal.
And we provided foster homes for dozens of animals with special needs, such as recovering from disease or injury, learning to overcome their fear of people, or requiring bottle-feeding because they are without a mother.
These are but a few examples of our work, and it is never done, and we will continue to enhance and expand our programs and develop new ideas. But we couldn't do it without you.
As 2012 comes to a close, we want to thank you for all your support throughout the year. We also invite you to make a year-end contribution that will help us continue to help animals in need. May the spirit of giving lift you up this holiday season!
On behalf of the animals-

Ramping Up for Whine & Wags
We know...we know... it seems a long way off, but Whine & Wags will be here before you know it! We are currently seeking individuals, business owners, and corporate underwriters who would like to contribute to our largest fundraiser of the year! Underwriting is a great way to get involved in Whine & Wags. Underwriting donations help pay the costs of the event and allow the money raised through ticket and auction sales to go directly to helping the animals. Underwriting includes two complimentary tickets to the event. There are several levels at which you can participate, from $150 to $3,000+. We're always looking for new fun and exciting auction items. Donating items is a great way to help the animals! Items can be pet-oriented, but they don't have to be. (Some of our biggest draws are sports-related, like Hawkeye tickets and autographed memorabilia.) Donated items are tax deductible, and your generosity will be acknowledged in the auction program if you would like. You can also advertise your business in the auction program. The cost for promoting your business is very reasonable, from $100 for a quarter page ad to $300 for a full page. It's a great way to reach pet lovers who support our cause! Volunteering is a wonderful way to become involved! It takes a lot of work to plan and produce Whine & Wags each year, and we can always use help gathering auction items, setting up the auction display, greeting and registering guests, monitoring the auction table, and more! To learn more about underwriting, donating items, or advertising in the program, contact Bernie Lettington at bernie.lettington@cvhumane.org. To find out how you can volunteer, contact our volunteer coordinator, Wendy El-Hussein, at wendy.elhussein@cvhumane.org. With your help, Whine & Wags 2013 will be more successful than ever! |

We Asked, You Answered!
Do you have a holiday decoration that your pet just can't seem to stay away from? Tell us about it!
Mary Seylar Allen: Greenery. The cats can't help but chew off the berries.
Grace Calvert: Our cat, Festus, dragged a new cinnamon ornament that someone gave me off the table where it was. He wanted to chew on/eat the ribbon that was attached to it. I found it on the floor broken with the ribbon all chewed on!
Melissa Christy: The bows that you put on presents. My cat chews them up, so we put them on the day of Christmas.
Jaclyn Keefer: Christmas tree - girl kitty thinks the lights are meant for her to pull off, and boy kitty believes the tree is his throne, therefore he climbs up the middle and proceeds to look down on his kingdom while lying inside on the branches.

Volunteer Spotlight: Emily Greiner
Volunteer Emily Greiner has helped us out in a BIG way! Not only does Emily walk dogs for us, but as an employee of MediaQuest Outdoor, she was given the opportunity to donate billboards to her favorite nonprofit. She chose us! Emily facilitated the entire project from start to finish, and we can't thank her enough for creating these spectacular messages for all to see!
The next time you're headed northbound on I-380 just south of Highway 30, look for us on the MediaQuest electronic billboard. Thanks, Emily, for being such a huge supporter of the animals! |

Happy Tail: Friendly, Curious Rainbow Just Hanging Out
Rainbow had been a special-needs kitty at the shelter for 13 months when I fell in love with her.
Her friendly, curious demeanor was impossible to ignore. She's a very laidback girl who loves to talk and spend time in your lap. If she's not napping on the cat tree, she's hanging out in the bathroom sink waiting for someone to turn the water on for her.
When I first brought her home she was 16 lbs. Now just over a year later, she's a healthier 12 lbs.
Thank you to the Cedar Valley Humane Society and all the volunteers for taking care of Rainbow so she could find her forever home!
Jessica W.
Remember, YOU can send us your Happy Tail, too!
