Week of November 5, 2012 - Issue No. 23
IN THE BAG  tidbits from  Fred

This week's pick up is only scheduled for Tuesday shareholders, to make up for the hurricane last week.

Hurricane Sandy has blown her way through and with her has followed early winter winds. The Rushton Farm Staff has been shivering through the cold days as we shut down for the season. The farm was left fairly unscathed by Sandy but the cold days and freezing nights are finishing off what's left in the field.

We will have one pick up this week on Tuesday to replace the pick up that was cancelled last Tuesday. We will have one final Thanksgiving pick up on Friday, November 16th from 3 to 5. This pick up is for all members regardless of what day you usually pick up. As in past seasons it will not be a share so much as a gleaning of what is left in the field and the rest of the storage crops (winter squash, sweet potatoes, etc.)

Through the next couple of weeks the Rushton Farm Staff will be reviewing this season and we need our members help to make next season even better.

Please take the time to complete our 2012 CSA Member survey.  It will be very helpful to get feedback  from this past season - it is from this information that we plan crops and quantities for next year.

Next week will be the final issue of the Wild Carrot newsletter and in it will be important information about membership for next season as well as some final words about the 2012 season.

LOCAL PORK  from Mill Hollow Farm

Members of Rushton Farm CSA have a unique opportunity to purchase local pork from fellow CSA members, Jeff and Debbie Warden, of Mill Hollow Farm.

The butchered Tamworth & Old Spot crossbreds are well known for their flavor and have been pasture-raised with additional fodder in their diet consisting mostly of roots, grasses and some grain.

It is very rare in our area to get grass-fed pork, so this is a rare opportunity for Rushton Farm CSA members.

The pork is available for sale as a whole animal or a half at $3.50 per pound - estimated weight for the whole is approximately 120 to 150lbs.

These are very healthy animals and have lived a bucolic life only a few miles from Rushton farm. Talk about local!

For more information or to place an order, contact Jeff Warden at Mill Hollow Farm at
jeffreycwarden@gmail.com.
