Happy Summer!

Our next meeting is the Annual Potluck Luncheon on September 14. See you then!

Previous Meeting's ReviewJim Robinson

We enjoyed a wonderful energetic presentation by glaze chemist Jim Robinson of Rookwood Pottery on May 11 for the final WACC meeting. Jim's passion for pottery was overflowing as he spoke in detail  about the history of Rookwood. We took a visual tour from start to finish of making a Rookwood piece as well a studio tour of the current Rookwood operating plant The members enjoyed it so much that one of our members may arrange either a social outing or a member meeting for a studio tour of the plant for the fall of 2013.
President Diana Taylor presented Mary Ran of Mary Ran Gallery with an engraved vase as our thank-you for hosting a fund raiser on our behalf.
Look for details in upcoming newsletters or email announcements on this tour as well as the many other great speakers lined up for the 2013-2014 season !

Club News

A program coordinator and newsletter editor is needed for next year, as well as volunteers to provide refreshments and to register meeting attendees each month. Please contact Diana Taylor to assist - or if you are called, please say 'yes' and maybe partner with another member to make it even more fun. You can email Diana: dianaks@fuse.net or call 859-331-7974
Stay in touch through the summer! Feel free to share your art experiences on our Club Facebook page, and look there for announcements and activities.

Questions about the Club? Contact any WACC Board member rather than calling the director at The Barn.

Dee Fagedes presented a One-Woman, 50 year Retrospective Exhibition in November, at the Woman's Art Club. The exhibit included paintings on loan from her clients and a slide show of her commissioned work. Her specialty is portraiture- a fresh, contemporary approach in watercolor. Exquisite!
LuAnna Klote received a Purchase Award for her painting "San Juan Capistrano" in the 2013 Healing Arts Exhibit at the McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, OH. Her "Southern Magnolia" painting is also in the show.
LuAnna Klote's three paintings "Lady Orchid", "Mountains of Alaska" and "Tranquility" sold in the Back to Nature-Discover Nature Fundraiser at the Cincinnati Nature Center - Rowe Woods.

Membership

The 2012-2013 year has ended with 219 members including 3 honorary members and 22 new members. The annual New Members Luncheon was held on June 8 to welcome those who joined this past year, and to share information and insights on the benefits of becoming a member of the Woman's Art Club.
Four members withdrew their membership and 29 did not renew their 2012-2013 membership. A final letter will be sent to those who are not current with dues and their names will be removed from the 2013-2014 yearbook.
Membership renewal letters for the 2013-2014 year were mailed in June for payment of the upcoming year dues which is payable July 1.
Thank you for your prompt response. The 2013-2014 Yearbook will be available at the September 2013 meeting.

The 2013-14 Year Book needs to be done by July 1. If you have any changes or corrections from this year's book, please contact Carol: 513-325-3763 chrpapernstuff@aol.com.

Barn Foundation News

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Thank you in advance for your generous contributions to our annual campaign. Donations are fully tax deductible, and much needed to support programs and operations at The Barn. This campaign is our largest fund raiser each year, and vital to pay the bills from Duke Energy, Cincinnati Water Works, Cincinnati Bell...you get the picture. Anything you can contribute, even just $25, will help us reach our goal of $12,500.
This cultural center was created to fulfill the Club's dream of impacting the region represented by our membership. The 5,000 adults and children who enjoy programs, exhibits and classes in our facility benefit from that dream.
At this writing, only 10% of our members have contributed to this once-a-year campaign, and we are still short of our goal. For those members who volunteer at The Barn, you have the Foundation's deep appreciation. You keep our doors open, assist at events and supply a lot of the behind the scenes work. However financial support is essential, and we hope that those members who can will send a donation today.
You can donate online at womansartclub.com, or send your check to:

General Interest - Workshops

The Taft Museum of Art is currently looking for people to join the upcoming Docent Training Class. Jean Graves, Assistant Curator for Docent and School Programs, is the contact person. Application deadline is June 28. If anyone is interested, go to the www.taftmuseum.org web site and look for the Support tab in the bar at the top of the page. Volunteer oppoortunities are listed under Support. Clicking on that will bring up a description of the program and the duties and responsibilities of a docent. There is also a link to the application form on this page.
I would encourage anyone who is interested to check this out. I've been a docent for several years and really enjoy the work and fellow docents. It is very rewarding work.
