Message from Our Chair John Chambers
| |
 | |
Chicago Section IFT 2013-2014 Chair DMH Ingredients
|
Dear CSIFT Members,
I hope you all have enjoyed your summer! As I sat down to write this message, I couldn't resist but think of the championship run the Chicago Blackhawks had. I was amazed by the teamwork and perseverance it took to overcome being down 1-3 in the Detroit series to eventually coming back and wining in overtime of game 7 of that series. Then to play together and bring home the championship against the Bruins was simply magnificent.
I believe with teamwork and dedication we can continue to keep Chicago Section IFT the biggest and the best in the country!
This s year Chicago hosted the IFT Annual meeting and Food Expo in July. There were over 23,500 people registered for the event with 1,183 exhibitors. The Chicago Section IFT was awarded $500.00 by IFT for participating in the 2013 IFT Section Challenge. Our Section had highest percentage of members in attendance.

"10 Things I Wish I Knew When I was Beginning my Career." Russell Moroz, VP Kraft Foods Speaks at October 21 Dinner Meeting

Our educations prepare us with the technical knowledge we need to be successful in our chosen fields of work. Those of us who pursue science and engineering degrees also learn critical skills well beyond the content of our courses: problem solving, innovation, and leadership. And, we are offered a host of experiences that broaden our perspectives and provide opportunities to practically apply what we have learned in class, including study abroad programs, undergraduate research projects, and internships.
What few of us leave school with, however, are those things that we typically learn over many years from diverse experiences, impactful coaches, and wise mentors. These insights can layer a whole different set of skills and behaviors on top of a strong educational foundation, perhaps making the difference between being good at what we do, and being great. They set us apart from others and help make us "known" for something. Applied to our lives outside of work, they can enable us to make bigger impacts to our friends, our families, and our society. Volunteers Needed for Student Night!
The Hospitality Committee of CSIFT is responsible for the success of its annual Student Night event. In order to make it successful we need your help! Please contact Keith Shafer (keithmmman1@hotmail.com) if you can help. Volunteers are needed for the following activities:
1. Resume building (3-4 PM). You get to meet one on one with students (maybe more than one at a time) and review their resumes and give them help based on what your experiences are. We do have recruiters involved, but we also need some lay people to help.
2. Speed networking (4-5 PM). You work firsthand with students to answer questions they may have about industry, moving into industry, the first job, etc.
3. Goodie bags. We like to give the students something from the night's activities. Company give-aways or related materials would be great. These items can either be brought early on the evening of the event or sent to Keith Shafer (keithmmman1@hotmail.com) prior to October 19. We expect to have 60 students. Read entire article

Cog Hill Golf Outing Raises Over $15K for Scholarships
|
| This year's CSIFT golf outing could not have been any nicer. With a record attendance of over 320 golfers on two courses plus several foursomes who had the opportunity to golf on the famous Dubs Dread course, this year's golf outing was a smashing success. Under the strong leadership of Golf Outing Committee co-chairs, Mike Hosler and John Fenstermacher and our generous sponsors, the event raised $15,612.00 for the CSIFT Scholarship Fund. See the Golf Outing Brochure for a complete listing of our sponsors and the volunteers who supported the event and who we couldn't do without! |
