Dear CSIFT Members,
We were incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Connie Weaver, distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University, as keynote speaker at the Tanner Lecture this week. She captivated the audience with her brilliant presentation on "Translating Nutrition Science to Dietary Guidelines." It was a memorable dinner meeting!
It is difficult for me to imagine that the 2012-2013 session of the CSIFT is coming to an end.As I look back, it makes me very proud of our accomplishments in enhancing the awareness, strengthening the image, and ensuring the leadership position of the Chicago Section in national IFT.We have made remarkable progress in all fronts: member participation in the dinner meetings is steadily rising; scholarship commitment to food science students and related programs is at a new high; Suppliers' Night attendance.......Read Vijay's Complete Message Here

Dear CSIFT Members,
I am very excited to begin my role as Chicago Section IFT Chairman for the 2013-2014 term. Serving as an officer including Chair Elect the last several years has been truly a blessing.
I have been able to grow strong relationships in our organization that would not have been possible to do anywhere else in the food industry. Through the good times and the challenging times it has been great to see how the people in this organization can pull together and get favorable results to benefit the organization.
Chicago Section was the first section, and in my heart I believe we are the best section! I envision CSIFT doing great things for our industry over the next couple years including scholarships that will help out our food science students. We have a strong long range plan commitment. And we have a great line up of speakers set for next year. I am very excited to see such a big participation with our New Professionals. Through them we are building a solid foundation to keep CSIFT strong well into the future.
As I transition into Chairman I want to be available to all our members. I think communication is key to our success. I will gladly answer questions as well as take suggestions and ideas to better our section. My contact info will be on our website. Please feel free to reach out to me via email or LinkedIn.
I embrace the opportunity and look forward to serving the organization. We truly have a great membership built of food industry professionals. Our members are the backbone and we cannot move forward without continued participation. Let's continue to move forward show everyone why Chicago Section is the best!

51st Tanner Lecture for CSIFT Presented by

Chicago Section IFT awarded the 51st Fred W. Tanner Lecture Award to Dr. Connie Weaver, Distinguished Professor and head of the Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University.
Dr. Weaver presented the Tanner Lecture, Translating Nutrition Science to Dietary Guidelines, at Northbrook Hilton Hotel on May 13, 2013.

Dr. Weaver received B.S. and M.S. degrees in food science and human nutrition from Oregon State University, and Ph.D. in food science and human nutrition from Florida State University.

Dr. Weaver is past-presidentof American Society for Nutritional Sciences. She is on the Board of Trustees of the International Life Sciences Institute, National Osteoporosis Foundation and Science Advisory Board of Pharmavite. She is member of the Institute of Medicine of The National Academies, of which she is the Food and Nutrition Board member.
In 2008, she became Deputy Director of NIH funded Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Her research interests include mineral bioavailability, calcium metabolism, and bone health. She has

The 6th annual Innovation NOW! Forum is a great opportunity for you and your company to share new products, ideas, and services with your fellow industry members. Click Here for Online Application
The Forum is held the morning and early afternoon of Suppliers' Night - November 13, 2013. The Forum is composed of three sessions that are run concurrently from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM. Note the NEW HOURS - in response to the SN 2012 attendee survey, we moved the starting time two hours later.
Each session lasts 45 minutes (30 minutes presentation, 15 minutes Q&A) during which companies have the opportunity to:
- Introduce New Products
- Illustrate New Applications
- Present Demonstrations
- Show a Video or CD of New Facilities or Production Capabilities
- Discuss Market Conditions and Information
All proposals must be turned in by Friday May 31, 2013. The Suppliers' Night Forum Committee will review all proposals, select and notify you of your participation by the week of June 22, 2013.

This year's IFTSA Midwest Area College Bowl was huge success! Over 50 students were in attendance from Ohio State, Purdue University, University of Illinois, University of Kentucky and University of Tennessee.
On Friday, April 19, the event kicked-off with a friendly 'Chopped' competition, where teams of students created dishes with a specific set of ingredients. Judges, Dr. Soo-Yeun Lee (FSHN Associate Professor), Terri Cummings (FSHN Director of Student Services), and Carter Phillips (Head Chef of Bevier Café) tasted all the dishes and declared the winner based on taste, creativity, and originality.
