Dear Parents, Grandparents and Guardians,
Happy Birthday, Hargrave! The Corps of Cadets, faculty and staff enjoyed celebrating the start of Hargrave's 105th year of continuous operation on Tuesday, September 9. It was a time to reflect, eat burgers and have fun. Fellowship and good sportsmanship ruled the field meet that was a big part of the Cadet celebration.
| The AMCSUS Flag flying at Founder's Day.
| Hargrave is a member of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) which comprises all the Senior Military Colleges, Military Junior Colleges and Military Prep Schools in the Nation. This is the Centennial Celebration year for AMCSUS; a set of U.S. colors is 'visiting' all 41 AMCSUS members. During Founder's Day the Corps turned out and the Color Guard proudly displayed the colors! Happy 105th birthday to Hargrave and 100th to AMCSUS!

Congratulations to Bravo Company who won the Founder's Day field meet! They had several impressive performances. Alpha Company took second. Band Company claimed third place. A high-five to the battalion staff for doing a great job running the field meet.
Hargrave is moving forward into the school year very well. Your sons are now fully engaged in the classroom, in athletics and with their character development.
I also want to welcome Captain Carlos Alvelo to Hargrave. CPT Alvelo will teach ESL and Spanish. We are very fortunate to have him join Hargrave. Please introduce yourselves if you see him. Look for an announcement in the near future that will have Carlos' biography.
The Hargrave Boy Scouts host a bonfire this Friday night, September 12. It begins at 7:00 p.m. Scouting is an awesome program that teaches life skills. Additionally, getting on the Eagle Trail will provide a 'sure-fire' way to help with those highly competitive universities and scholarships.
Have a great week.

2014 Founder's Day
| | Bravo Wins the Field Meet
| The cutting of the cake! |
Hargrave celebrated its birthday on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. For the Cadets, faculty and staff, it is a basically a party that provides a break from all the activity that took place on campus since early August. It is also a great time to come together as a school, and a Cadet companies. One of the celebratory items was the cutting of the cake. Joining BG Don Broome (USA Ret.), Hargrave's president, was Cadet Tyresse Kayonga of Kigali, Rwanda, the Academy's youngest Cadet, and Cadet Hunter Shelton of Utica, Kentucky. Bravo Company won the field meet and claimed a streamer for their guidon. Alpha Company was second. Band Company was third. For images, check out Founder's Day 2014.

Order of the Sabre
| |
Sabre Banquet Sunday, October 12, 2014
Hargrave Military Academy's growth and success over the past 26 years could not have been possible without the school's generous alumni, parents and friends whose sustains Hargrave as America's premier military boarding school. During the 1987-1988 school year, the Academy chose to honor those donors with exceptional lifetime giving, those with annual giving at or above the $1,000 level and those who have made planned gifts to the school with induction into appropriate levels of the Order of the Sabre. We are proud to continue this tradition just as we are proud of the many who continue the tradition of providing the very best for the Cadets. We would love to have you join and be recognized at the 26 Annual Order of the Sabre Banquet. Sunday, October 12, 2014. To learn more about this event and how your giving can benefit Hargrave's Cadets, please contact Mr. Ben Wall at [email protected] or call 434-432-2692.

UNC Football and Racing
| | Student Activities
On Saturday, September 6, 2014, Coach John Eife and CPT Steve Griffin took the Cadets to the UNC vs. San Diego State college football game. It was a great game, too. It was a night game under the lights and the crowd had a lot of energy. The Cadets went crazy cheering on the Tar Heels as the game went down to the final seconds. UNC won a high scoring shootout 31-27, which was decided on an interception with 14 seconds left on the clock. The Cadets loved being in the college atmosphere.
On Sunday, September 7, 2014, LTC Joe Merricks and Mrs. Kneyokee Shelton went racing with the Cadets at the Virginia International Raceway's go-kart track. VIR's karts are high end mini-racing machines. The Cadets loved the squealing the tires and the difficult course. The track also records which kart was in 1st, 2nd, 3rd place etc. It also tracks the fastest lap time. The Cadets love "talking some track trash" after each race as they try to outdo each other.

Cross Country and Soccer
| | Fall Sports
Varsity Soccer vs. Timberlake Christian AcademyOn September 4, 2014, the varsity soccer team rolled over Timberlake Christian Academy 7-0 in an away match. Stellar performances by a number of Cadets elevated the score total for the team's last two contests, which rained a whopping 18-1 as balls into opponents' nets. Go Tigers!
| 2014 Varsity Cross Country |
Varsity Cross Country vs. Virginia Episcopal School On September 9, 2014, the varsity Cross Country team defeated Virginia Episcopal School (VES) 24-35. Cadet Harry Crosby missed first place by one second, and the rest of the team stepped up to squeeze VES into the higher point totals. It was a real team effort for the win.
