Gary Fox Memorial Award

DEADLINE MONDAY!

Your SAR is calling for nominations for the 2016 Gary Fox Memorial Designated/Managing Broker Award to recognize a designated broker or managing broker who serves as an example of loyalty, ethical behavior and leadership in the real estate profession.

Applications for the 2015 award must be submitted by close of business Monday, March 21st.

The award will be presented to its 2015 recipient at the SAR Quarterly Membership Meeting on March 31st.

Fed Holds Interest Rates

The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday that it will not raise interest rates as quickly as it had originally anticipated. The Fed dimmed its outlook as the economy showed signs of slowing.

This means short-term interest rates will stay steady. The Fed's benchmark rate likely will increase just twice this year, down from their original prediction of four.

The initial increase to the Fed's short-term rate - which was near zero since 2008 -- occurred in December of 2015. By the end of this year, the rate likely will rise to 0.875 percent, according to a median projection of 17 officials following the Fed's meeting this week. Officials largely see June as the next probable time for a slight increase.

REALTORŽ Broker Summit

REALTORŽ Broker Summits are designed exclusively for designated broker and broker owner members to come together and learn from presenters, panels, and peer leaders in the industry offering fresh insights on current conditions while looking to the future of real estate.

The 2016 Broker Summit will be held June 9-10 in Denver, Colorado, at the Denver Marriott City Center.

The $149 Broker Summit Early Bird registration rate will run through April 8.

Come learn how appraisers measure houses, where adjustments to value come from and why appraisers can't get to total value.

2016 Education Requirements

By the current rule, you need to take a Code of Ethics class once in every four-year cycle. That means that if you have not taken a Code of Ethics class since January 1, 2013, then you need to take a COE class before the end of this year!

This COE requirement also applies to appraisers.

Check the SAR's class schedule and register for a class via the Member Portal:

By the new rule, which starts on January 1, 2017, you must complete a Code of Ethics class once in every two-year cycle. The first two-year cycle will begin January 1, 2017, and end December 31, 2018.

While you're checking, NAR, SAR, and WA-DOL require you to take other classes in varying cycles, too.

For example, SAR requires you to take a Purchase & Sale Agreement class once in a four-year cycle; the Washington State Department of Licensing requires you to take the Core Curriculum class once in a two-year cycle.

If you have not taken a Purchase & Sale Agreement class since January 1, 2013, then you need to take a P&S class before the end of this year!

This P&S requirement does not apply to commercial members or appraisers

Verify your COE Status

To verify if you need to take a Code of Ethics class before the end of the year, just click on the SAR Member Profile button on the MLS Dashboard (see below).

In the upper left corner, right below your name it will have yes or no after the COE Complete. If it says no, you will need to complete a Code of Ethics Class before the end of the year (see below).

HOME Survey

Over three-quarters of surveyed households would purchase a single-family home if they were to buy in the next six months, and 79 percent of renters would choose to buy outside of an urban area, according to the second installment of the National Association of RealtorsŽ new quarterly consumer survey.
