2016 Education Requirements

By the current rule, you need to take a Code of Ethics class once in every four-year cycle. That means that if you have not taken a Code of Ethics class since January 1, 2013, then you need to take a COE class before the end of this year!

This COE requirement also applies to appraisers.

Check the SAR's class schedule and register for a class via the Member Portal:

By the new rule, which starts on January 1, 2017, you must complete a Code of Ethics class once in every two-year cycle. The first two-year cycle will begin January 1, 2017, and end December 31, 2018.

Email Debbie at the SAR, or call her at 326-9222, to confirm your status.

While you're checking, NAR, SAR, and WA-DOL require you to take other classes in varying cycles, too.
For example, SAR requires you to take a Purchase & Sale Agreement class once in a four-year cycle; the Washington State Department of Licensing requires you to take the Core Curriculum class once in a two-year cycle.

If you have not taken a Purchase & Sale Agreement class since January 1, 2013, then you need to take a P&S class before the end of this year!

This P&S requirement does not apply to commercial members or appraisers

See a handy guide to WA-DOL, NAR and SAR education requirements (pictured above), online here.

Verify your COE Status

To verify if you need to take a Code of Ethics class before the end of the year, just click on the SAR Member Profile button on the MLS Dashboard (see below).

In the upper left corner, right below your name it will have yes or no after the COE Complete.  If it says no, you will need to complete a Code of Ethics Class before the end of the year (see below).

Need help checking your status?  Call Debbie at the SAR for assistance - 326-9222 - or email her here.

Generational Trends

A growing share of homebuyers are millennials, and more of them are purchasing single-family homes outside of urban areas, according to the 2016 National Association of REALTORS® Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends study, which evaluates the generational differences of recent home buyers and sellers.

Overall, the majority of buyers in all generations continue to purchase a single-family home in a suburban area, and the younger the buyer, the older the home they purchased.

Approved Street Tree List

Your clients who lost trees from the November 17th windstorm may, now, be looking to replace them.

Should they plant the same species of tree or something else?

The City of Spokane Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry department put together an Approved Street Tree List a few years ago that is still an excellent resource for selecting what trees to plant around homes here in the Inland Northwest.

Download an electronic copy of that document (pictured above) - and share it with your clients - online here.
