Call for Action

REALTOR Action Center

Congress is considering a proposal that would create a tax on all potential homeowners and consumers looking to purchase or refinance a mortgage.

By increasing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) to fund transportation programs, Congress would disturb the housing recovery.  Now is not the time to raise the cost to purchase or refinance a home.

NAR strongly believes that taxing homeowners to pay for transportation programs places an unnecessary long-term burden on consumers and this action will disproportionately impact low and moderate income borrowers, as well as first-time homebuyers.

Tell Congress to stop taxing homeowners to fund transportation projects:

Please Vote by November 3rd!

Spokane County mailed ballots to more than 280,000 voters this week.

If you're a registered voter, you should get yours in the next day or two.

Your completed ballot is due back by the evening of November 3rd.

On this ballot, you will find two statewide initiatives: one that tries to force the Legislature to pass a constitutional amendment that requires a supermajority for tax increases, another that would place state penalties on trafficking in endangered animal parts.

There are also four advisory measures on state tax increases.

In Spokane County, your ballot will include a question whether to expand your board of commissioners from three members to five.

In the City of Spokane, your ballot will include opportunities to vote for a mayor, a council president and half of your City Council. It will also include Proposition 1 (a City Charter Amendment to establish a Worker Bill of Rights) and two advisory votes on how to fund Proposition 1.

In City of Spokane Valley, your ballot will include three council positions on the ballot, although one is unopposed.

Depending on where you live, you may also be asked to decide school, fire, water, sewer and cemetery district board members or commissioners.

If you have questions about this election, please visit the Spokane County Elections office, online here.

Screening Prospects before Showing

RE Technology returns this week with the sixth in its series of articles on REALTOR safety: Screening Prospects before Showing.

"Always bring someone on an appointment." Nice idea, but unrealistic. When something is ALWAYS important then it becomes NEVER important. However, understanding how to evaluate the prospect, property, and circumstances is the first step in assessing the overall risk of an appointment so you can make better decisions about your safety and the safety of your colleagues.

JULY/AUGUST ANSWER:

The Hearing Panel disagreed with Seller S's contentions. It noted that while REALTORS do, in fact, have an obligation to preserve confidential information gained in the course of any relationship with the client, Standard of Practice 1-9 specifically provides that latent material defects are not considered "confidential information" under the Code of Ethics. Consequently, REALTOR A's disclosure did not violate Article 1 of the Code of Ethics.
