TRID Now Law
|
Richard Cordray (left), the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), spoke last week at the National Association of REALTORS ® on the newest of the bureau's mortgage reform rules: the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) rule or, the name the CFPB prefers, The Know Before You Owe Initiative. In addition to explaining the basics of the rule, which combines the required Truth in Lending Act and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act disclosures when obtaining a mortgage loan, Cordray took a swipe at those he said were spreading "misinformation" about the three-day closing aspect of the rule.
Read more about Mr. Cordray's remarks online here.
REALTOR® magazine offers a collection of resources to help you transition to the new rule.

Setting Expectations in your Marketing
|
RE Technology returns this week with the fifth in its series of articles on REALTOR® safety: Setting Expectations in your Marketing.
The words you use in your marketing messages have connotations, which is to say that they have emotional value over and above their literal meaning. Those who commit crimes with a power motive are attracted to subservience and weakness because the "power high" is what they seek. Those who commit crimes with a profit motive are also attracted to subservience and weakness because it represents lower risk.

Wellness Celebration
|
The Spokane - Eastern Washington Chapter of Women's Council of REALTORS® invites you to its fifth annual Wellness Celebration and Rally on October 15th. This year we are doing things a little differently.
We contacted organizations in our area that help women in transition: Anna Ogden Hall, YWCA & Catholic Charities. We asked each of these groups to nominate women who have gone through, or are going through, their programs and are getting ready to enter the workforce.
We selected five women and they have been working with an image consultant. As part of the makeover they will be getting new clothing, hairstyles and makeup lessons.
We are excited to be reaching out to women in our community!
Local companies are helping to sponsor the women and we welcome your sponsorship. We invite you to purchase tickets or a table and join us in celebrating the women in our community. See the event flyer (pictured above), suitable for posting in your office and sharing with your friends, online here.

JULY/AUGUST ANSWER:
The Hearing Panel disagreed with Seller S's contentions. It noted that while REALTORS® do, in fact, have an obligation to preserve confidential information gained in the course of any relationship with the client, Standard of Practice 1-9 specifically provides that latent material defects are not considered "confidential information" under the Code of Ethics. Consequently, REALTOR® A's disclosure did not violate Article 1 of the Code of Ethics.
