Strong Gains Experienced in Sporting Goods Run/Fitness Segment | |
The Sporting Goods Channel Run/Fitness segment has been experiencing significant growth, according to the latest data from the Leisure Trends Group. This segment, representing retail sales of $10 billion, has experienced double-digit growth over the past three years, with 2012 experiencing an 18% increase vs. 2011.
Each of the categories within this segment, footwear, apparel, and accessories, have averaged double-digit growth rates, with footwear leading the way with a 20% avg. annual growth rate. The majority of growth is being driven by increases in unit sales (and not through price growth), further indicating that the Sporting Goods Channel Run/Fitness segment is very healthy.
Some of the fastest growing categories on a percentage basis include Pods/Fitness Trackers, Womens' Headwear, Womens' Cross Training Shoes, MP3/Music Accessories, and Womens' Eyewear.

Team / Institutional Dealer Input Requested: 2013 Outside Sales Compensation Survey | |
NSGA is excited to announce the 2013 Team / Institutional Dealer Outside Sales Compensation Study. As you know, dealers increasingly must evaluate compensation and benefits for outside sales personnel. This study will help you benchmark how your costs and compensation for outside salespeople compare to the rest of the industry. NSGA last completed a similar study in 2003.
In an effort to meet the evolving needs of team / institutional dealers, we are asking all dealers with outside salespeople to please fill out the survey (which will take approximately 20 minutes to complete). All responses are confidential and will be used in summary form only. Once the study is complete, all survey responses will be destroyed.

January CPI for Sporting Goods Decreases -0.9% vs. January 2012 |
The CPI for Sporting Goods decreased in January (-0.9% change vs. Jan. 2012). This is first decrease after 4 months of being flat or increasing. The Sporting Goods CPI for the 2012 calendar year ended at 91.9, -1.1% vs. 2011, while all items finished the 2012 year +2.1%. |
Last Month's Survey Results: Measurement of Advertising Impact |
