New Video Releases
Cesar Torrente joins DressageTrainingOnline.com with a Ride A Test clinic.  This first session is with a rider competing at Intermediare 1.  After riding the test as it's scored by Mr. Torrente, we have the fabulous opportunity to watch him dramatically improve the trot and canter to bring this pair from competitive to exceptional.

with Cesar Torrente, COL

Part 1:  Cesar Torrente judges this Internediare 1 ride, scoring each movement as it is ridden.

Part 2:   Mr. Torrente reviews the ride and suggests that they need to show the best possible frame during the whole test, since this 11 year old knows his movements.  They start by working on the ideal collected trot, thinking of passage. He requires that they get quicker in the hind end without shortening the neck. They next do trot almost walk trot transitions concentrating on changing his balance.

Part 3:  They talk about having the right rhythm and frame in the trot, showing more suspension by thinking of passage in the trot.  This pair shows a great example of how this can improve a trot that has become too flat. When they go to the canter, they ask for more quickness in the hind end with his haunches down and head up.  In shoulder fore they do transitions between the working and collected canter.

Part 4:  Cesar describes how this exercise has greatly improved the canter.  When they talk about the canter half pass, he explains how this canter will also improve this movement.  They get the correct canter before going on to the half pass and zig zag, with better changes.

Cesar Torrente brings us this essential session featuring the First Level Test One.  After riding the the test and scoring it, he points out the overall issue of getting the mare forward and more responsive.  All First Level riders need to watch this video for a great example of how to make a vast improvement on their own test rides by conquering this fundamental issue.

Part 1:  Cesar Torrente judges First Level, Test 1, scoring each movement as it is ridden.  He reviews the ride with her, and they work through the issues presented durning the test.  The first suggestion is to add activity.

Part 2:  Mr. Torrente gives helpful advice for the first center line and salute.  As they move into the trot he asks that the mare be responsive and ridden forward into the walk transition. He points out that doing frequent transitions will help her learn to collect, and that it's essential to use the corners. They concentrate on the trot walk trot transitions, asking for them to be forward and prompt.

Part 3:  When they change rein and lengthen the stride in the trot, the mare is more forward and the trot improves.  They ask her to promptly respond to the leg aids, and their next lengthening is even better.  Mr. Torrente next has them do transitions within the canter, lengthening and collecting.

Part 4:  Cesar now has them ride the test again now that the mare is really moving forward.  As he coaches her through the test, we have an excellent opportunity to see how much better a test can be by making this fundamental change.  They work through the transition from the walk to trot after the free walk to get a smooth transition.  The next canter depart is prompt and accurate and the lengthening more pronounced. The entire test shows great improvement.
