Friends and Members,

Today's new videos focus on these two topics and more.

Sometimes, I feel like it is the same topics repeatedly. My feeling is correct. Such is our sport.

The wonderful thing is...DTO shows you these topics from a myriad of different view points and methods for tackling these issues. If one doesn't work you have alternate options to go to by looking at the same topic from a different trainer or same trainer with different horse or rider.

There are many paths, which one will you choose?

Danny Dockx works with a wonderful pair and gives great tips on correctly riding the shoulder in, as well as showing how collection done right can improve other movements.  Watch for great examples of half pass, counter canter and extended canter!

 with Daniel Dockx, ESP

Part 1:  Danny Dockx has watched the rider warm up before we start, and offers her great suggestions for when the horse is falling on the outside shoulder.  As they trot he requires that they keep the power in the hind end while keeping him through his back.  Danny works with them on going from a big trot to walk without shorter steps before the transition. The horse travels with his haunches slightly in on the long walls, and Danny has them think of moving the inside shoulder in.

Part 2:  This pair performs good leg yields  and extended trot while changing rein.  The horse willingly stretches down after this work.  They next work the shoulder in on the long sides with collection on the short ends.  They are encouraged to keep moving forward without too much inside bend and with a lower neck.  Watch for many tips on how to improve your shoulder in!  The trot half pass is next, starting with a few steps of shoulder in.

Part 3:  Danny reviews the shoulder in, and explains what he is looking for in collection.  They go from collected to working trot on the circle, thinking of piaffe in the collection.  When asked to canter, they repeat the working to collected transitions on the circle.

Part 4:  Now that they are cantering using the whole arena, Danny asks them to go shoulder in on the long wall before canter half pass from the center line to counter canter on the short end to extended canter across the long diagonal.  Repeat!  They change direction and repeat the exercise.  Danny emphasizes that he must remain in front of the leg.  The horse adds the flying change instead of remaining in counter canter, and they are asked to go more forward in the counter canter.  In the stretchy trot Danny asks them for collection while the neck remains down and stretching- very challenging!

Dr. Ulf Moller brings us an excellent lesson on asking for the bend and the training of the half steps with a lovely horse and rider.  If you have questions about getting your horse responsive to the bend and swinging more, this is the video for you.

UlfMollerinpklaid

Part 1:  Dr. Moller asks the rider for more bending in the turns by supporting the turns with the legs and keeping the hands quiet and in front.  As the horse becomes fussyin the bridle, he has the rider sit the trot.  It's interesting to watch as he asks for more bend and the horse improves.  He always asks for lightness when the horse accepts the rein.

Part 2:  In the canter work they continue working on the bend, allowing the horse the freedom to bend with the outside rein, and lightening when he does bend.  After doing trot walk trot transitions making sure he is pushing from behind, they start the half steps.

Part 3:   They continue their work on the half steps, never pulling down or back, and Dr. Moller discusses the use of the aids for this.  Watch for tips on half halting from behind.

Part 4:  They return to the canter, and Dr. Moller now has them stretch down on the circle in a longer frame. When the horse comes a bit off the contact he is encouraged to ride him forward from the leg.
