Ask yourself, "Can you do nothing?" If the answer is no then give the correction.

Friends and Members,
Today you get to view Courtney King-Dye's new training video. She is articulate, detailed and readily provides our viewers with essential tips to improve their ride! On a personal level, after working with her recently to collect new content, which I haven't done since her terrible riding accident a few years back, I walked away thinking, "Wow. Here is knowledge and strength and determination. I am so fortunate to call her friend, business partner, teacher, hero." Courtney is top, watch her video and see. The learning found within will surely exceed your expectations!
Key learnings:
- If you can't do nothing, administer a correction
- The walk is always ready to trot or canter
- Whisper then shout
- Whoa, Go, Change
- Better to bail out then to know your going down the wrong path and ask anyway
For those who are not yet members of DressageTrainingOnline.com,
- Nowhere else can you view training sessions broken into 15 minute segments, with text explaining exactly what is within that segment, so you can determine if you want to view that portion of the video.
- Nowhere else can you save your favorites for quick retrieval and review
- Nowhere else can you watch the Judge's View, where judges go back through a test they have judged, giving you the per movement scores and in depth explanation as to why they gave it that score.
- Nowhere else can members list their horses for sale for FREE!
- Nowhere else can you find such an international selection of respected trainers and judges to learn from, USA, GER, UK, NED, DEN, SWE, FRA, AUT, PORT, ESP, ISR, AUS, NZ, CAN
Hunker down and enjoy these videos while learning at the same time!

Part 1: Courtney King Dye shows us an eighteen year old Dutch Warmblood who is working at the upper levels. Her assistant trainer rides him, and the lesson plan is to work on his bracing against the bit and accepting the contact, suppleness, and asking for movements in unusual places in the ring. Courtney gives a great explanation of her training methods. They begin with transitions between the extended and collected walk.
Part 2: They work this gelding gymnastically by using circles and serpentines, making sure he is responding to the aids. Courtney gives a great explanation of how to use the aids and make corrections if you don't get a clear response. When they go to the canter and prepare to ask for a flying change on the long diagonal he anticipates , so they continue in the counter canter until she can ride it and do nothing.
Part 3: After a walk break, Courtney has her make sure he is ready to canter while still in the walk before asking for the transition. They show great examples of going from the extended walk to the collected walk. Courtney insists that the transition to canter be done accurately without a nagging leg.
Part 4: When he comes against the bit, she corrects him by pushing from the inside leg rather than just bending more. They do another walk break, but it's interesting to see how precise the work can be in the walk break. They return to the canter, counter canter and a change, making sure that she is not holding him down.
Part 5: When schooling the flying change, they do the whoa-go-change sequence resulting in a forward clean change. They make sure she is not holding him to achieve these changes. Courtney explains the reasoning behind schooling the change on the center line as opposed to the quarter line, and why it's so important to reward the horse for being correct.
Part 6: They discuss what work to do at the trot, but start with the extended to collected walk exercise first. When he is a little rude, they make sure he is responsive and are rewarded with an excellent transition to the trot. They work transitions within the trot, moving him off the inside leg when he braces. He leans on her left leg when they start to do the half pass, so Courtney has her leg yield off that leg and then return to the half pass.
Part 7: Because he is not being totally honest off the inside leg, they decide to continue with the half pass leg yield exercise instead of going on to the zig zag. The trot to walk transition becomes a bit passagey, and Courtney has her think half steps and keeping him quick.
