Greetings!
The Education for Justice Team wishes to express its prayers to those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. We extend our heart-felt sympathy to our sisters and brothers in Haiti, Cuba, and in cities and towns throughout our nation as they grieve the loss of family members and the destruction of homes and crops. And we stand in solidarity with those engaged in post-disaster rebuilding.
It is by coincidence that the theme for this posting is on women and gender. It is widely recognized that women bear the heaviest burden when disasters strike; they face different challenges and levels of vulnerabilities as compared to their male counterparts. At the same, women also possess a unique strength in mobilizing communities in post-disaster settings in responding to the most pressing needs facing their families and communities.
The resources for this posting include:
- Fact sheets on women food producers;
- Fact sheet on human trafficking;
- Discussion guide on the documentary: Pray the Devil to Hell;
- Fact Sheet on childhood poverty in the U.S.;
- A resource on Diwali, the Hindu festival of light;
- Prayer on the elimination of violence against women; and
- Second Week of Advent Reflection
