On Saturday, June 1st, YWCA Hartford Region hosted a FREE Financial Literacy Workshop for 30 High School Girls called Winning Play$.

Winning Play$ is a Life Skills and Financial Literacy program, that is delivered to high school students in partnership with NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott's All Stars Helping Kids Foundation.

The program's goal is to HELP + EMPOWER + EXPAND:

  • TO HELP those students develop the psychological, social, and emotional skills needed to transform behaviors that are preventing them from achieving their financial goals.
  • TO EMPOWER students for success by demonstrating an effective model that includes behavior changes and tools for internal motivation.
  • TO EXPAND the dialogue on financial literacy and financial reform to include psychological, social, and emotional factors.
This FREE program was facilitated by Stacey Tisdale, creator of Wining Play$ and the keynote speaker for this year's Money Conference for Women. Thank you to YWCA's Young Women's Leadership Corps (YWLC), Girl Scouts, YMCA Wilson Grey Center and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Precious Pearls for participating.

2013 ywlc year-end celebration!

The young women in YWCA's Young Women's Leadership Corps (YWLC) celebrated a successful year! Participants from all seven YWLC programs came together to celebrate their accomplishments over the last school year.

"I enjoy this program so much because it empowers women," a YWLCer said to the crowd. "I thank the YWLC for helping me grow."

The island themed celebration featured a Henna tattoo artist, Jamaican cuisine and a photo booth!

Congratulations to all of the YWLC participants for a fun, educational and empowering year.

2013 celebrate west hartford

YWCA Hartford Region participated in the annual Celebrate West Hartford event on June 8 & 9.

Our booth featured a dress-up photo booth where children could put on costumes and get their photos taken. The children were able to decorate their own photo frames for their parents! Even our YW Kidslink staff got in the spirit (photo above).

YWCA is a strong member of our community, and participating in Celebrate West Hartford is a great way to see and interact with the families we serve. YWCA Hartford Region operates five childcare programs in West Hartford including, our Elmwood Early Learning Center and four YW KidsLink before- and after-school sites.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and said hi!
