ywca observes national women and girls HIV/AIDS awareness day

Did you know that nearly 280,000 women in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS? Every year National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWHAAD) is observed on March 10th to increase the understand of HIV/AIDS prevention. This year YWCA Hartford Region observed NWHAAD by teaming up with Latino Community Services and providing educational workshops to young women in collaboration with local organizations in the greater Hartford region. The workshops provided information on how women and girls can protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Young women from YWCA's Young Women's Leadership Corps (YWLC), The Teen Parent Program at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Asylum Hill Boys and Girls Club, MICASA Family Center and Latino Family Services participated in the workshops.

This year's Stand Against Racism is on April 26th!
Stand Against Racism is a program of YWCA aimed at raising awareness that racism still exists in our communities and that it can no longer be ignored or tolerated.
YWCA Hartford Region is calling on all local organizations: schools, corporations, faith-based organizations, government agencies and non-profits in the Hartford area to Stand with us by becoming a participating site of the 2013 Stand Against Racism. A participating site hosts a Stand Against Racism event at their own location (which can be private or open to the public).
