On October 27 over 350 women attended the Money Conference for Women. Now in its 11th year the Money Conference for Women, hosted by YWCA Hartford Region and Honorary Chair, State Treasurer, Denise L., Nappier, offers help to women of all ages and encourages them to take charge of their financial futures.
New keynote speaker, Stacey Tisdale, author and financial journalist, encouraged the audience to create specific "SMART" (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Timely) goals for their future and manage their money in order to achieve those goals. "You were born with everything you need to achieve your goals," Stacey said. "Do not let money get in the way."

Help Pass VAWA
The re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is coming before Congress. Congress only has six weeks to pass this bill. If the bill is not passed in the next six weeks the bill will have to appear before a whole new Congress, delaying the passing of this important bill for victims. Please call or write your members of Congress urging them to pass VAWA today! To send an e-mail urging your members of Congress to re-authorize VAWA, click here.
Why is the re-authorization of VAWA so important? First enacted in 1994 (and since re-authorized twice), VAWA provides federal resources to encourage community-coordinated responses to combating domestic violence and sexual assault. This new version of VAWA streamlines programs to improve effectiveness, increases accountability to ensure that all victims and survivors receive the help they need, strengthens protections against housing discrimination faced by victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and provides critical improvements to respond to the unmet needs of communities across the country. In particular the Senate version of the bill addresses the needs of those experiencing violence at the hands of a same-sex partner, as well as for immigrants and Native American women.
