Dear ISD Parents/Guardians,

It is important that students ride the bus to and from school in a safe manner.  The classroom teachers and I have reviewed the expectations the students are to follow when riding the bus.  It would be helpful and much appreciated if you reinforce these points in your own discussions with your child / children.  Below are the key points that were brought up in our discussions.

Bus Expectations:
  • Behavioral expectations that we have for our students in school also apply for when they are on the bus (i.e., hands and feet to themselves, use inside voices, remain in seat at all times unless exiting bus, etc.)
  • Please follow the seating order for each grade level:
    • K and 1st - at the front of the bus
    • 2nd & 3rd - middle
    • 4th & 5th - towards the back
  • It is a privilege to ride the bus and that privilege can be taken away due to inappropriate behavior
  • Cameras are on the bus and video may be viewed by Mrs. Ricci and Mr. Matejek if an incident is being investigated
Thank you for your support of this important matter.

Sincerely,

Mr. Matejek
Assistant Principal

FROM THE ART ROOM
Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school, and "hello" from the Art Room! I hope you all had wonderful fun filled summers. Your children are looking well rested, invigorated and have been excited to share their adventures!

I wanted to share a few friendly reminders and requests....

Please be sure to check your Dragon Tales edition frequently, as I will update you here on the concepts and ideas we are focusing on throughout the year. I will also include any important dates for you to note as they approach. In addition I will also share information about Artsonia-our on-line student art portfolios, upcoming art shows, and events or classes that may be of interest to you and your family.

As we are getting back into the swing with our routines, and organizing our rooms, I am realizing I am in need of a few supplies. Any donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated:

*Newspaper (preferably NY Times, Greenwich Times, Wall St. Journal, or any large size newspaper for covering tables)
*Yogurt cups- large 32 oz. , or smaller individual cups
*corks
*small wooden pieces
*cardboard sheets

Please send your child in to their classroom with a smock by next Friday 9/16. An old tee shirt, or apron will do. We are not painting yet- but will be soon!

For those of you familiar with ARTSONIA, I am looking for volunteers!

To those new to Artsonia, it is a great way to view and, share your child's artwork with family members, on line. Artwork is photographed in the Art room and uploaded to the Artsonia site. Once you give the site permission the images will go "live" to you and others you allow to view it. You also have to opportunity to buy items such as mugs, calendars and stationery with images of your child's work on them. They make wonderful gifts, and a portion of the proceeds go to support our PTA!

I am always in need of photographers to come in and take pictures and upload student artwork. It is a great way to help out and get a peek at what your children are creating! I have an Artsonia calendar outside the Art Room for those interested to sign up.

I wish you all a wonderful beginning of the year. I look forward to meeting our new families and seeing those that were here last year. Pease feel free to stop by the Art Room at any time to see what we are creating!

All the best,

Mrs. Buddy
Art Teacher
EXCITING NEWS FROM THE ISD GARDEN THIS WEEK!!!
Monarch Caterpillars have been spotted by one of our very own Green Thumbs Karen Sagesse!

Our pollinator garden which was planted years ago by teachers and staff serves a very important role in supporting many pollinator species. The native milkweed plants are especially exciting this time of year as the monarch caterpillars that are munching on the leaves of these plants will soon form their chrysaliss and then the adults will emerge and migrate all the way to Mexico for the winter. The native plants in our garden serve a very important role in the life cycle of this fascinating species! Thank you again to all who help to maintain and care for the garden!

DROP OFF CIRCLE REMINDER
For the safety of all students, please remember the following when dropping off children in the front circle:

  • All children should exit independently from the passenger side of the car
  • Children may exit in the green cone zone only
  • Parking spaces in the front circle are not permitted for use during drop off and pick up
  • Drivers must remain in their cars at all times
  • School doors open at 8:30am.
If children need assistance, please park your car on the street and walk them to the building. This ensures the flow of traffic.

Please consider turning right when exiting the circle to help ease traffic flow.
