Dear ISD Parents/Guardians,
As we wrap up February, we have a busy month of March to look forward to. Our fifth graders will take Part 1 of the Math Transition Test on Thursday, March 10th. Students who score at or above the benchmark on that test may go on to the next level of testing which will take place on Tuesday, March 29th. These results will help determine placement regarding their math program in middle school. The fifth graders will also take the Science CMT (still mandated by the state) on Thursday, March 17th.
Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Tuesday morning, March 22nd as we welcome the parents of our 2016-17 incoming kindergartners. Letters will be going out shortly with details regarding the time and agenda.
Next week, our favorite writing consultant, Mr. Donato D'Albis, will be here all week, working with our students in grades two, three and four. "Mr. D" has been a repeat visitor who brings a unique style in supporting our writing curriculum. Thank you to the PTA for bringing in this enriching experience to our students.
In April, the Smarter Balanced Assessment period will begin and run through the end of May. Mr. Matejek, our Assistant Principal, oversees the administration of these assessments and will be sending home a letter shortly to parents of students in grades 3, 4 and 5 with details regarding the testing dates. We will start the testing period with our third and fourth grade students and finish with our fifth grade students.
Looking way ahead, Mr. Boland and I have scheduled Field Day for Thursday, June 9th, with a rain date of Friday, June 10th. Please mark your calendars.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

FROM THE ART ROOM
|
Dear Parents,
A few important dates to remember:
Thursday, March 17, 5:30-7pm: Opening night of the District Art Show at the Media Center at Greenwich High School. This is a great opportunity to see some of the beautiful artwork created by our very own ISD students, as well as other students in grades K-12 from all of our public schools in Greenwich.
May 9 is the ISD Art Show at the Cos Cob Library. More exhibition information to come. This is what's going on in the Art Room:
K: In an effort to connect with the classroom IB Unit on weather, we are
taking a careful look at winter animals. The children have been drawing them to be used in the creation of a winter painting.
1st Grade: We are working on silhouette collages and examining how different animals and objects in nature can be represented through the use of shapes. 2nd Grade: The second graders are embarking on landscapes, with artists such as Winslow Homer, Paul Gauguin and Horace Pippin serving as inspiration. 3rd Grade: The students are very excited to create animal inspired pinch pots. They have sketched their ideas and are about to begin working with the clay. 4th Grade: The fourth graders are finishing their Surrealist-inspired drawings. They are adding their final touches using a variety of drawing materials including chalk, marker, and colored pencil inspired by Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali. 5th Grade: The fifth graders are continuing with their dream house creations. They are deciding which elements to create such as exterior and interior views and thinking carefully about the details to these houses that reflect their "dream" home.
Please keep checking Artsonia and the hallways at school for
All the Best, Art Teacher
