Educational Differences Supports Coffee 10:00am in the cafe

Dear ISD Parents and Guardians,

Our second graders will be screened in the next couple of weeks as the first step in the ALP identification process. They will take computerized tests that measure cognitive ability in verbal and non verbal areas. Students who do well on these measures will proceed to the next level of testing. More details will be forthcoming about the process.

ALP stands for the Advanced Learning Program. In grade two, the program is an enrichment program that extends learning within the grade two curriculum. This is unlike grades three though five, where the ALP program is an alternative, accelerated program that provides instruction on above grade level curriculum standards in math and/or reading and/or science.

Next Friday, October 16th, Mrs. Stoga, our school psychologist, and I will conduct two separate meetings for parents of first graders and fourth graders. Both meetings address the topic of "Personal Safety", which will be presented to our students in the next few weeks. Prior to doing so, we have parent meetings so parents can hear and preview what is communicated about the sensitive topic of keeping our personal bodies safe, before the students hear about it. The meeting for parents of first graders is at 9:00, while the meeting for parents of fourth graders is at 9:45. Both are being held in the cafe.

In this issue, there is an announcement of a parent workshop that will be conducted on the topic of parent communication and the digital learning environment. Mrs. Irene Parisi, Assistant Superintendent, and Mr. Phil Dunn, Chief Information Officer, will speak to the question, "How will DLE impact my ability to know what is going on in my child's classroom?" The workshop will be held at the Havemeyer Building from 12 - 2. If you are available, it is a good idea to try and attend. The 1:1 Device Plan that the Greenwich school system has implemented is a huge endeavor and we are all learning the many aspects involved with it. Have a great weekend. Remember there is school on Monday, Columbus Day, which is a first for the Greenwich public schools.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci
ISD Principal

CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES -- PTAC CHAIR
If you are interested in the curriculum enrichment programs brought to your school, here is a chance to be a part of this process from the ground up.

PTAC is looking for a chair person(s) to obtain and share programs that support the Greenwich Public Schools Curriculum. The programs cover writing, music, theater, visual arts, dance, sciences, and cultural and historical studies. This is the advocacy body for the arts and other curricular areas.

The Chairs arrange committee meetings and invite representatives from all Greenwich schools, both public and private, to share and collaborate. They also invite performers/professionals to give a samples of their offerings for in-school assemblies and workshops. For more information, please contact Anne Pfetsch, PTAC Nominating at annepfetsch@gmail.com.
