Personal Safety Meeting Parents
9:00 1st grade
9:45 4th grade

Dear ISD Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for attending our Open House last night. It is always a special event, as it provides important information about your children's learning opportunities during the school year. It is also an opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors, while meeting and making new acquaintances. The staff and I appreciate your continued and ongoing interest and support in your children's education.

Speaking of education, next week, our kindergarten and grade one students will learn about fire prevention from our local firefighters. They will be here on Wednesday, October 7th, to demonstrate important safety practices. Of course, I expect the highlight will be seeing the fire engine that will be here as well. In a conversation I had with the Fire Marshal last year, I explained to him that many students were not aware of "Stop, drop and roll" based on a very informal survey I took of our students.  For many years, that practice was drilled into students so I am glad the Fire Marshal decided it was time to resurrect educating students on that, as well as other safety practices.

Keeping in the safety mode, a pamphlet is going home today on "Bus Safety." Please take the time to read it with your children and discuss the important points with them. Whether they take a bus to and from school or go on a school field trip, bus safety is important for all students to be made aware of and reinforced, both at home and school.

Have a dry and safe week-end!

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci
ISD Principal

FROM THE ART ROOM
Dear Parents,

Thank you to those who were able to come by the Art Room during Open House this week. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet with you and talk personally about the Art Program here at ISD.  A few new things to note...

Artsonia.com:
Many of you are aware of Artsonia, or will be getting letters soon about this program. It is a great online way to view your child's artwork, and to have the ability to share it with others. You can even purchase items with your child's artwork on them to give as gifts to family and friends. It is a beneficial fundraiser for our school. It is a secure site that does not share email information; only those with Artsonia accounts can view published artwork on the site.

Artsonia cannot work without your help!!! I am in need of parent volunteers who will come in every few weeks to take photos of the children's artwork that will be "published" online for you to view.

In the past, this was a somewhat labor intensive process. However, thanks to our iPads it is now much easier. The volunteers can take photos with my iPad and load them directly onto the Artsonia web site. It only takes a few minutes, and it is a tremendous help!

If you are interested in getting a sneak peek at your child's work -- and are savvy with iPads--please contact me at ferris_buddy@greenwich.k12.ct.us. Once I have a group of parents interested I will set up a time for a very quick Artsonia crash course, and we will be off!
