Dear ISD Parents,

We are off to a smooth and exciting start this school year.  As of this writing, we have 369 students registered here at ISD.  Welcome to the new families who joined us this year, as either a magnet family or a family having moved into our attendance area. There are many clerical tasks involved when beginning a new school year. This includes completing forms. Several forms have either gone home or are available in our back-to-school folder on our website. Please complete them promptly and return them to school.

Phase 3 of the district's digital plan is here and happening. Our IPads have arrived and will be distributed in an efficient and organized manner. Please look for more information and details related to the use of the device but they will begin getting distributed to our fifth graders on September 15. In the meantime, if you have not established an Apple account, please do so as soon as possible. Based on my latest report, we still have many families who have not registered with Apple and this needs to be done before a device can be utilized. If you need assistance, please contact Mrs. Madoff or Mr. Harris and they will be happy to assist you.  In fact, Mr. Harris will be here at school on Wed. evening, Sept. 9th from 5:30 to 6:30 to offer assistance to those parents who cannot get here during the school day.

Teachers launched into their instructional programs starting from day one, incorporating reviews of previously learned material while conducting curriculum assessments. The data from these assessments serve as a baseline for determining growth and progress, which are monitored closely throughout the school year. In addition to addressing the academic aspects of school, teachers also emphasize team building, while establishing classroom communities and behavioral expectations.

These behavioral expectations extend to the bus as well. As a point of interest for you, which you may want to pass on to your children, there are two cameras on each bus that record each route. These films are available to school administrators should a behavior problem arise and safety is compromised. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a great Labor Day weekend and enjoy the extra day.

Sincerely,
Terry Ricci, ISD Principal

FROM YOUR PTA!
On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, we would like to welcome everyone to the start of another exciting school year at ISD.   We are especially pleased to welcome all of our new families and students.  We hope you will soon find ISD to be a great place to grow, learn and make new friends.

The goal of the ISD PTA is to enrich the school experience of every student while supporting our teachers and fostering a special community for our families.  We are a 100% volunteer organization and funded completely by the generosity of our families.  We invite your family to learn about the many benefits of becoming a member in the 2015-16 school year and volunteer with us in any way that works for you.  Whatever your interest, special skill or available time, there is always something you can do to get involved and make a positive impact in the ISD community.

We are looking forward to a great start to the school year!

NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM
Dear Parents,

Welcome back, and hello from the Art Room! I am very excited to be a part of the ISD community and have been enjoying getting to know your children. They are already filled with wonderful ideas and great energy!

Please be sure to read "Dragon Tales," as I will update you here on the concepts and ideas we are focusing on; include important dates; and share information about upcoming art shows, events, or classes.

I have realized that I am in need of a few supplies. Any donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated:

Newspaper
Yogurt cups - any size will do!
Gently used blocks and Legos

I wish you all a wonderful beginning of the year and look forward to meeting you. Please stop by the Art Room at any time to see what we are creating!

Best,
Mrs. Buddy
BE A BUDDY!

Calling all returning ISD families! We are hosting an ISD buddy families program and we are looking for volunteer families to be buddies with our new incoming families for the 2015-2016 school year. We'd especially love some of our first grade families to participate as buddies since we have many new incoming kindergarten families. Please contact Tiff Noakes for more information or to sign up.
