Gr.5 to EMS for Orientation

Dear ISD Parents,

Thank you to all of you who supported the Nepal fundraiser.  Many students brought in their donations.  I asked many of them what kind of chores they had completed to earn the money.  Besides hearing a wide variety of tasks they engaged in, there was also a sense of pride from the students as they shared the details of the "labors" they engaged in.  As of this writing, I do not have a total but I will share that piece of information in next week's issue of DT.

Next Wednesday, June 3rd, Mrs. Madoff and I are conducting a parent meeting to inform and update you on the implementation of the Phase 3 DLE plan.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am in the cafe and should last about an hour.  Please bring a device of your own if you have one or you will be given one to use during the course of the meeting.  We are also recording it if you are not able to attend.

Student led conferences are being scheduled and conducted in every grade level.  These conferences are required by the IB Organization and, as they are referred to, students "lead" the conversations with their parents about their learning and progress this year, often accompanied by work samples.  The discussions may also include academic goals for the future, which we encourage all of our students to think about as it facilitates motivation and "buy in".  I hope you enjoy them.

Many people are working hard to ensure this Sunday's beach party is a success.  I hope many of you are planning to attend.  It is a wonderful event that both children and adults seem to enjoy. Hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci

ISD FIELD DAY - MONDAY, JUNE 8

RED, WHITE and BLUE ISD Spirit Wear

will enliven the day on Field Day 2015!

The day promises to be full of fun, physical activity, sportsmanship and good cheer. This year marks a continued emphasis on physical activity, teamwork and sportsmanship. The 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will continue to compete in games as well as our traditional races. Each class will be cheering loudly from the sidelines for their teammates, as well as other grade levels.  The enthusiasm, variety and spirit of these sideline cheers will be a strong factor in determining which class earns the coveted Sportsmanship Award, the highest achievement of the day. An exciting addition to this year's Field Day is the colored pinnies to be worn by each class.  The ISD PTA has generously provided Red, White and Blue pinnies for every student to wear on Field Day.

The day begins at 9:00 am with an opening ceremony in the front circle to launch the day, as usual lunch is picnic style in the field starting at 11:30 and the closing ceremony will wrap up the day by 2:45.  Hope to see you there!

SCHOOL START TIMES SURVEY

alarm clock

The Greenwich Public Schools invited you on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 to complete an important online survey regarding School Start Times. The email invitation was sent to you from William McKersie

The subject of the email read:  School Start Time Survey
Please check your in box for this email. Only one Parent Survey was emailed per household.  The deadline for submitting the survey is Friday, June 5, 2015.  If you have any questions or problems regarding this survey please contact janice_gunnip@greenwich.k12.ct.us.

Our sole objective with this survey is to gauge the level of interest among families, students and staff in exploring a possible change in school start times. Some parents and some students have expressed interest in a later start time for the high school to better align with the sleep cycles of high school students. A change in high school start times, however, would have District-wide impact and could affect before and after school schedules and programming. The District has not yet determined whether changing school start times would be beneficial or viable or should be a priority initiative. If we were to make any changes to School Start Times, the earliest implementation would be the 2016-2017 school year, with the 2017-2018 school year more likely.

We are urging all families, students (Grades 8-12) and staff to complete the School Start Time Survey. The survey will help us discern whether or not we should establish changing school start times as a priority.
SUMMER SKILLS REVIEW BOOKS - 0RDER ONLINE

Below is a link to order Summer Skill Review Books for math, language arts, keyboarding, Spanish, and French language skills. These are by no means required: however, you might wish to use them to maintain your child's skill in these areas over the summer.

Since they are review material, you will want to order the book for the grade level your child is leaving as of June 2015. If you have any questions about the appropriate level please ask your child's classroom teacher.
