Dear ISD Parents.
Our Superintendent, Dr. William McKersie, took time out of his very busy schedule to visit our kindergarten classes this week. During his visit, he read the book,The Napping House, to each of the classes and followed up with a question and answer period. The students really enjoyed interacting with him and they impressed him with the quality of their responses to his questions.
Our third graders are in the midst of taking the Smarter Balanced Assessments. They started this week and they will continue through next week. Our fourth graders will begin with their administration of the tests at the end of next week once the third graders finish. The process has gone very smoothly and we look forward to seeing results sometime in June.
Fifth graders enjoyed a day of "orienteering" this past Wednesday at Camp Seton in Greenwich, where they joined fifth graders from other Eastern network schools. The day was deemed a success, both by the students, as well as the teachers. Students participated in a variety of outdoor activities while meeting other fifth graders. The goal and purpose of the day was to integrate students among the four elementary schools as part of the transition to middle school process.
In addition to the orienteering day, our fifth grade teachers met with staff from Eastern Middle School for a "sharing meeting" this week. Every effort is made to ensure a smooth transition from elementary school to middle school for each and every student. In striving toward that goal, it is important to share what we know about your children with the professionals who will work with them next.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci
