Good Friday

Dear ISD Parents,

This week we hosted the popular author, Katie Klise.  She met with groups of students and appeared to have made quite an impression.  She not only shared her personal experience with the writing process but interacted and engaged with them in a meaningful fashion. We find these author visits with our students have a significant affect on our students in motivating them to write while providing concrete examples of what can happen to a piece of writing. These experiences are very much appreciated.

The GPS art show opened at Greenwich High School Media Center this week with a warm opening reception.  Each school had the opportunity to showcase student work and we are especially proud of our own artists whose work was on display.  Mrs. Verdier, prior to commencing her leave, selected pieces that reflected artistic insight and perspective.  The art work will be on display for an extended period of time so I would encourage you to view the exhibit.  It is really impressive to see the wonderful artwork that students throughout Greenwich have produced.  It reflects the commitment to the arts and the development of the whole child.

Speaking of art, I have hired a long term art substitute who will replace Mrs. Verdier through the end of this school year.  Her name is Mrs. Weiss.  She is a certified art teacher with an extensive knowledge of art, which she shares with much enthusiasm and energy.  Her tentative starting date is Tuesday, March 24th.  Please help me welcome her to ISD.

We anticipate the return visit of Mr. D in the coming week.  Mr. D, a writing consultant, will spend the week working with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders in the various aspects of writing.  He has a unique style and big personality that our students find memorable.  Thank you and have a good week.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci
