Dear ISD Parents,
I hope you are keeping warm on these bitterly cold days. As I am sure the children have been telling you, we have not had outdoor recess all week. I am hoping for a break in this cold spell next week as they need to get out for some fresh air and physical activity. In hoping to spur warm thoughts your way, ISD's annual beach party at Tod's Point is scheduled for Sunday, May 31st. Please save the date as more details become available. It promises to be a fun-filled day!
This week we held our kindergarten orientation for students entering kindergarten in the fall. It is always exciting to meet the new group of parents who will join the ISD family. Of course, it is also good to see current ISD parents, as well, who may be registering their youngest child. If you know of anyone living in our attendance area whose child attends preschool outside of Greenwich, please ask them to contact our office. Our rosters are generated by the preschools in town, so we want to be sure we capture everyone who lives in our attendance area. Any spaces available are then dedicated to applicant students who are offered a spot through the lottery, which is tentatively scheduled to take place the first week of March.
On Tuesday, February 24th, a meeting will be held for parents at Old Greenwich School to update them on Phase 3 of the Digital Learning Environment Plan. The meeting is scheduled for 9:30am. If you cannot make that particular meeting, there are three other meetings scheduled with the same content but at different times and locations. There is another meeting scheduled that very same evening at Cos Cob School at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, February 25, a meeting will be held at Parkway School at 9:30 am and the last meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 26th at New Lebanon School at 7:00 pm. Parents of Grade 5 students can attend the Middle School presentation at Central Middle School at 7:00 pm. I hope you can attend one of these meetings. All teachers will be receiving their device, which is the I Pad, and begin their training this spring. In the fall, all students in grades K - 5, will receive an I Pad as well. It is the beginning of an exciting venture into enhancing our instructional programs through the use of technology. Keep well Sincerely, Terry Ricci

HAVE A RISING SIXTH GRADER?

Dear Parents:
Eastern Middle School is looking for parents of rising 6th graders to get involved in several PTA - sponsored events for next year. Specifically, 6th grade social dances, book fairs, and our new GatorWalk! These are just a few of the many ways you can get involved at Eastern. We welcome all volunteers and love to see new faces! For further information, please contact Stacy Loveless or Renee Jennings, your ISD representatives on the EMS Nominating Committee.

Wellness Month
|
Dear Parents:
The week of March 9th, ISD will hold its annual fruit and veggie challenge in celebration of wellness month. Volunteers will be needed to make this healthy fun event a success! Please look for the genius sign up for this event soon. Helpers are also needed to prepare fruit and veggies as well as shop. This is a wonderful chance for your child to increase their fruit and vegetable intake in a school-wide event.
Gratefully Yours,
Elisabeth Weindling

BOX TOPS
|
Please continue clipping and bringing in those Box Tops! Our special Box Tops collection box is still in place in the corridor, opposite the Main Office. Place properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child's name and class clearly marked. The class that collects the most Box Tops by the end of February will be treated to a special class celebration! This is a wonderful fundraiser for all the children at ISD and it is one of the easiest ways to volunteer and contribute to the school! Let's continue working together to meet our goal of $800 this year - time is running out so please, keep on clipping! We can do it!
