A Message from the Principal -Dear ISD Parents, Science month at ISD is going strong. On Thursday, representatives from Greenwich Audubon were here to work with our first graders through their partnership with them. Students participated in an experience learning new and rich vocabulary and how what happens in nature connects with human behavior. This week we also held the second session of Science Night and had a great turnout. Students really enjoyed learning about a variety of science concepts through hands-on experiences. We will continue this focus on science next week when we will hold two assemblies for the school on Wed., 1/28. The topics are "Forces and Motion," which are part of the GPS science curriculum. In addition, the CT Science Center will be here on Friday, 1/30, to work with our fourth grade students. Thank you to the PTA for financially supporting these enriching activities.
If you attended the parent presentation this week by a Math in Focus representative, then you had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the philosophy of the program, its delivery approach and lesson design and how parents can support their children's math learning at home. The very knowledgeable presenter was very effective in conveying the merits of the program. That same day, she worked with teachers and specialists in grades two through five. Teachers from the four Eastern network schools (ISD, North Mianus, Riverside, Old Greenwich) spent a half day expanding their knowledge of the program. Teachers in kindergarten and grade one went the next day for their professional learning. The feedback was positive, as the teachers' learning of the program was quite enhanced through the discussions and sharing of strategies. In closing, I want to share with you that we are having a PTA meeting on Tues., Feb. 3rd at 9:00 am. The speakers for this meeting are Mr. Gordon Beinstein, Principal of Western Middle School, and his team who will present what the IB Middle Years Programme model looks like. It will be very informative, so if you can attend, please consider joining us. Have a good week.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

"It's been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and Vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snotlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island's new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons."

BOX TOPS
|
Please continue clipping and bringing in those Box Tops! Our special Box Tops collection box is still in place in the corridor, opposite the Main Office. Place properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child's name and class clearly marked. The class that collects the most Box Tops by the end of February will be treated to a special class celebration! This is a wonderful fundraiser for all the children at ISD and it is one of the easiest ways to volunteer and contribute to the school! Let's continue working together to meet our goal of $800 this year - time is running out so please, keep on clipping! We can do it!
