A Message from the Principal ~
Our fifth graders have worked very hard in preparing for the culmination of their research projects, which they will present at our Exhibition next week. The group presentations will take place over three days, Wed., 12/17, Thurs., 12/18 and Fri., 12/19 and cover many subtopics under the general topic of "wellness." Please try to come and support our students and attend one or more of the presentations, regardless if you have a fifth grader or not. The Exhibition is a reflection of these students' learning throughout their elementary years and a proud moment for our school community. Details regarding dates and times are included in this issue.
Next week is indeed a busy week as we are also presenting our winter concert on Tuesday evening, Dec. 16th at 7:00pm in the gymnasium. Our musicians have also been working very hard, with their teachers, in preparation of this special annual event and an event we always look forward to.
This week we held our very successful book fair under the leadership of Kim Thomas. I am hoping our students will enjoy reading their new books and sharing them with friends and family. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help.
Our food drive for cereal and canned goods (especially fruit) is underway as an expression of giving during this holiday season. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Lastly, if you have not completed the survey to help guide the development of the school district's new strategic plan, please take the time to do so. It helps to hear from everyone before the information is collated and recommendations are formulated.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

| BOOK FAIR A BIG SUCCESS |
Thank you to Kimberly Thomas and the wonderful volunteers who were very busy during our book fair. Both students and parents alike were pleased with the book selection, as evidenced by the level of excitement the book purchases generated. Thank you also to everyone who supported the book fair & the 5th grade fundraising drive.
Happy Reading!

| TRAFFIC CIRCLE SAFETY |
In order to expedite student drop off while ensuring safety for all, please remember the following when dropping off children in the front circle:
- Students should be able to independently exit from the passenger side of the vehicle and never cross in front of a car. All students should be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as the car stops in front of a green cone.
- Drivers must remain in the vehicle at all times.
- To help ease traffic flow, please turn right when exiting the traffic circle.
- If you need to assist your child, please park on Florence or MacArthur Roads and walk with them. Please do not block driveways near school. The office has received many complaints from our neighbors regarding illegal parking near the school.

| THANK YOU TO TURKEY TROT RUNNERS |
Thank you to all of the ISD families who participated in the Turkey Trot 5k and 1 mile fun run on Saturday, November 29. The Greenwich Alliance for Education provided the school with the greatest participation a $500 Physical Education Award.
Maybe next year, ISD will get more families to join this fun event and we might win the prize for our PE department!

DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM
|

ISD's dental health program will begin
January 5, 2015.
This program is run by the Town of Greenwich and includes both an educational portion as well as a dental screening for all ISD students.
Thank you for promoting good dental health. Parents can also help by providing good, nutritious snacks and lunches for their children. It has to be a team effort from us all to combat decay and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Thank you,
Jeannie Schnakenberg, RDH, BS
