A Message from the Principal ~
Dear ISD Parents,
On behalf of the entire staff, we want to thank you for the delicious cookies you so generously provided for us. The special treats made for a lot of excitement and were certainly well-received. Conference days are long days so a cup of coffee and a cookie (or two or three?) go a long way.
Speaking of food, I want to share that our cereal drive yielded approximately 200 boxes of cereal. Neighbor to Neighbor came on our "snow day" to pick them up and were so appreciative of our drive. They have more than 650 families who "shop" at Neighbor to Neighbor weekly for groceries to help make ends meet. The agency continues to be in dire need of cereal and canned fruit. With this in mind, in lieu of gifts during the holiday season, the office staff has traditionally requested food donations. This year we are asking for these particular food items to donate to Neighbor to Neighbor by December 22nd. Boxes will be placed in the main hallway by our mural. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
The author, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, was here today, Friday, Dec. 5th to speak with our students in grades two through five, courtesy of the PTA. Each session was a lively and interactive session with students leaving with important "take aways" about creativity and the importance of writing skills in "telling" a story. These author visits motivate our students and transfer the learning they experience in hearing the author to their own approaches to writing. If you are not familiar with his books, we have many in our media center if you want to enjoy them with your child. It is a great way to reinforce and extend the "author" experience.
Our Book Fair is scheduled next week on Wed., 12/10 and Thurs., 12/11. I hope you can stop by the gymnasium to see the selection, either with your child (see the class schedule in this issue) or on your own, to pick up some gifts.
Please see the information about completing a survey that will help inform the development of a Strategic Plan for the school district. It is important to get as much feedback as possible. Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

| ISD BOOK FAIR DECEMBER 10th & 11th |
This year we are thrilled to welcome back Scholastic but with a new twist; Booktopia has merged with the large publishing company. The partnership is allowing us to inject some fresh new titles and selections that are the mark of the smaller independent Booktopia Fair. This is a great chance to pick up some great stocking stuffers and holiday gifts, and with the inclusion of advanced and adult reader titles, you can check off a lot of readers on your list!
Join us in the Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 10th from 9am-6pm and Thursday, December 11th from 7:30am-3:00pm. Your children's class visit schedule is on the attached sign. Don't forget to have your little readers design their own bookmark on the handout flyer that went out earlier this week. They can bring in their cutout the day of their class visit and we will laminate and ribbon it. A fun and unique way for your readers to celebrate the fair.

Please consider volunteering for a shift; set-up, fair hours, or breakdown.
You can sign up by clicking here.

DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM
|

I would like to announce the beginning of the dental health program, which will be beginning on January 5th, 2015.
This program is run by the Town of Greenwich and includes both an educational portion as well as a dental screening for all the students at The International School at Dundee. This program is beneficial in continuing to maintain the health and well being of the students.
Thank you for promoting good dental health, and parents can also help by providing good, nutritious snacks and lunches for their children. It has to be a team effort from us all to combat decay and maintain a healthy life style.
Thank you. Jeannie Schnakenberg, RDH, BS
