A Message from the Principal ~
Dear ISD Parents/Guardians,
This week our fourth graders visited the Guggenheim Museum as part of their partnership experience. They started their work, in conjunction with the museum visit, after the school year started under the guidance of Mrs. Verdier. That work has continued in spite of Mrs. Verdier's leave of absence, under the guidance of art teacher substitute, Mrs. Mathis, an artist in her own right. The trip was a success based on the feedback from teachers and students alike. Teachers will utilize their students' new learning in follow up lessons to capitalize on the experience.
Speaking of learning, our first graders had a wonderful time interacting with science through the CT Science Center. Teachers from that great institution were here to work with each of the first grade classes on reinforcing our science curriculum objectives related to light and sound. These objectives are included in their IB science unit on Forces and Motion. The students were introduced to and participated in a variety of experiments that demonstrated and reinforced these concepts for them.
Thank you to everyone who made Monster Mash such a bit hit. Many hours are put into the planning and executing of the event and the result is, it is one of our most popular events of the year and one that is talked about long after Halloween is a distant memory. On that note, Happy Halloween to everyone. If you are out trick or treating, have a great time and be safe.
Maintaining everyone's safety is a priority and to that end, we are having a lockdown drill this coming week. The teachers will have reviewed procedures with the students but you may want to mention it in your "dinner conversation" at home this weekend. Lockdown drills are completed twice a year while fire drills are held monthly, regardless of the weather. Hopefully, we will never have to experience a real life emergency but we do need to prepare our students in the event that we do. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Lastly, we do have school on Veteran's Day. If you are a veteran or have a family member who is and would like to participate in our ceremony honoring our veterans, please email Mr. Matejek at eugene_matejek@greenwich.k12.ct.us.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

| BRING IN YOUR BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION |
Thank you to all those who have been bringing in the "Box Tops for Education" coupons you have been collecting for our school. Every dime counts, so please bring them in, even if you just have a few.
There is a special collections box, in the shape of a schoolhouse, in the corridor, opposite the Main Office. Please place the properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child's name and class clearly written outside. The class that collects the most Box Tops by the end of February 2015 will be in store for a special class celebration!
Here are some examples of products that participate in Box Tops: Hefty products, Kleenex, Mott's, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Progresso, Yoplait, and assorted cereal brands. Keep an eye out for Box Tops on other products as well.
Let's work together to meet our goal of $800 for this year! Together, we can do it!

Please complete a Membership Form and return it to the main office at your earliest convenience.
Your contribution will directly fund PTA-sponsored enrichment programs and special events including Classical Café, grade level partnerships, family events, writing specialists and scholarships.
Membership contributions of $20 or more receive a complimentary ISD school directory. We have received so many generous donations: Thank You So Much!
