Dear ISD Parents,
I have been reveling in the joy of two main school events that were held this week - Field Day and the Moving Up Ceremony. Field Day turned out to be a beautiful day, albeit a little warm, but the tents, sprinklers, frozen washcloths, water, etc. helped a great deal. The heat did not deter from the fun the students had or from the sportsmanship they displayed. Thank you for coming to support the day - it was a huge turnout.
The Moving Up Ceremony for our fifth graders was heartwarming and joyful. We really try and personalize it for each of our fifth graders, as it is probably the last time they will experience an intimate send off before moving on to much larger venues.
I also had the opportunity to attend the GHS graduation ceremony last night, which was also a very special event. I was proud of and cheered for all of our former ISD students, especially the two Salutatorians, former ISD students, who addressed the audience.
This past week, the Board of Education unanimously approved a gift cap waiver giving us the green light to move the process of enhancing our playground forward. The Board was grateful to the ISD community for making the generous contribution. It is our hope that the new playground equipment will be installed for the 14-15 school year.
In closing on this last issue of Dragon Tales of the 2013-14 school year, I want to express my thanks for your support of and involvement in our school this year. Special thanks to the ISD families who are leaving us as their last child leaves. As always, on behalf of the staff, it was an honor to educate your children. I wish all of you a terrific summer. Enjoy. Sincerely, Terry Ricci |

On Tuesday, the Board of Education approved our Gift Cap Exemption request which will allow the PTA to augment the playground with two additional pieces!
The children selected Option 1,
which hopefully will be installed in time for the start of school in August.

Thank you PTA members, this addition to the playground is only possible because of you!

NEWS FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
|
Incoming 3rd graders:
I have mailed out notices and required forms to 2nd grade parents in preparation for the 3rd grade year. Parents are urged to continue handing in the required physical exam forms as their children receive their physicals. Please copy all forms before submitting them. Thank you parents for your cooperation!
Lice:
Long break times, like this summer break, is when this issue usually presents itself. Parents are urged to continue to take a proactive approach to this by checking children for evidence of lice on a daily basis as part of the regular home routine even when away and especially when coming back from being away. Please check your children most carefully before the start of school.
Ticks:
Ticks are very prevalent at this time of year, therefore, please check your children for this also.
Thank you for all of your support/ cooperation throughout the school year. I have enjoyed taking care of your children. Please have a healthy, enjoyable and safe summer break. Hope to see everyone in August, 2014!

Dear Parents:

Our school year is quickly coming to a close, but not Artsonia. Don't forget to check the website for new pictures posted by our ISD artists. Our ISD photographers and editors continue to upload new projects daily. As your child moves up to Eastern Middle School and beyond, you may also upload your child's art in a few easy steps, by simply registering, and photographing the works.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing over 5,600 art works from our K - 5 artists this 2013-14 year. Thanks go to our incredible artsonia volunteers, Etsuko Tulloch, Alan Rodriguez, Kanako MacLennan, Michelle Liew, Tina Roschmann, Jenny Joseph, Renee Jennings, and to all who helped out with our grade level artistic endeavors, a very Happy Summer to you all.
Creatively Yours,
Melissa Verdier, Art Teacher
