Dear ISD Parents,
We all feel very appreciated! On behalf of the staff, we want to thank all of you for a Teacher Appreciation week that was filled with nice surprises. The treats and gifts gave us all a lift and reinforced our gratitude of working in a very special place. Special thanks to the committee who pulled it all together.
We had two wonderful concerts this week. Our band, chorus and orchestra groups performed at high levels and this is a testament to the quality of instruction they receive from our music staff, Mr. Strange, Dr. Heikel and Ms. Madonna. Thank you, as well, for your support of the arts which play an important role at our school.
Wednesday, May 21st is an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 so teachers can attend professional development workshops that afternoon. Teachers will receive training in a wide variety of workshops related to their grade or discipline including digital learning, Close Reading strategies, etc.
Greenwich Public Schools offers a summer school program every summer. You may want to review the options on the GPS website, as the offerings are not solely for students needing remediation. This year for the first time, you can also register online.
Springtime usually brings an increase in organized activities and programs that students are enrolled in after school. This may be contributing to the increase in traffic pick up after school. Please be mindful of traffic rules, especially as they affect our neighbors. The same can be said in the morning drop off procedures. As a reminder, students should be exiting cars from the right side of the car as soon as the car comes to a stop. Please try to move up as far into the circle as you can and also consider making a right turn out of the circle to keep the traffic moving.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely, Terry Ricci

We would again like to thank you, the membership, for approving to spend up to $55,000 on improvements to the Outdoor Play Space at the April 8th PTA meeting. In order to make the desired improvements to the Outdoor Play Space, the next step is to get a Gift Cap Exemption approval from the Board of Education. We have asked to have our request for a Gift Cap Exemption added to May 22nd BOE agenda.
If the Exemption request is approved on May 22nd, the children will vote to decide which playground equipment pieces will be added. There will be 3 options the children will select from, which are being developed in consultation with Parks and Recreation, ISD Administration, ISD PE teachers, District Administration and the Game Time rep (the Town's preferred vendor).
The ISD PTA Executive Board truly appreciates the support of the Parks and Recreation Department for contributing site preparation and installation assistance for the project. We also thank them for adding a pitcher's mound and cutting baselines to the school's diamond. The PTA and ISD Administration are continuing to work with District Administration, Parks and Recreation and the Highway Department to have the blacktop resurfaced over the summer.
