Dear ISD Parents,

I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge everyone involved with the Travel the World parent event who made it such a special night.  The families, who hosted and opened their beautiful homes to everyone, included the Keegan family, the McKenna family, the Hartofilis family and the Breier family.  Also, thank you to the co-hosts and organizers for planning a fun event with great food and fanfare.  It was a great way to come together to welcome spring after a very long winter.

Speaking of spring, the nicer weather appears to bring out the restlessness in some of our students. This was apparent in some of the behavior exhibited on bus rides this week.  If your child rides the bus, please review expectations regarding behavior.  The main expectation is that students are expected to remain seated through the duration of their ride.  Obviously, we would like for them to refrain from any other behaviors that could distract the bus driver, whose primary responsibility is to drive the bus safely.  Also, remind your children there are cameras on the bus that record each ride and can be accessed to verify any reports of misbehavior.

At the general information portion of the PTA meeting this past Wednesday night, a proposal was made and voted unanimously to move forward on allocating funds toward improving the playground area.  Although the current playground equipment is considered safe, we are looking to enhance it with an additional piece or two.  This is just the first step in working with the town to bring this plan to fruition.  Please look for more information in the future.

The speaker at this meeting, Dr. Julia Trebing,  spoke on the topic of positive parenting.  Many valuable points were made in the presentation, including, the importance of play in the lives of young children and the caution of over programming them, which may result in "burnt out" later on in their teen years.  With those points in mind, I wish everyone a fun, carefree but safe spring break.

Sincerely, Terry Ricci

WE TRAVELED THE WORLD!

Saturday evening we traveled the world of Mediterranean cuisine sampling Italy, Greece and Spain.

Beginning with a delicious and beautiful display of Italian cuisine at Louise & Chris McKenna's assisted by co-hosts Debra Hess, Suzanne Sullivan and Karen Grant.

Next stop, we received a warm and authentic Greek welcome from Angie & Jonathan Hartofilis assisted by co-hosts Ursula Howard-Sneyd, Mallika Singh, Joanne Rosenthal and Ann-Caroline Schraa.

Spain, with all its vibrancy & festiveness, was hosted by Liz and Mazz Keegan and co-hosted by Marela Sicic, Sarah Zeegan and Stacey Cleary.

The evening finished at Lynette Breier's home with a decadent display of dessert including a chocolate fountain, tiramisu donated by MJ and our resident baker, Ms. Lamanna's 'perfect' cheesecake.  Co-hosted by Patricia Carey, Vera Merrill and Margaret Mullen.

A big thank you to Ann-Caroline Schraa for Chairing the event!  We appreciate our hosts and co-hosts GENEROSITY AND TIME in continuing to make this a fun evening for the ISD Community - parents and teachers.  Parents and teachers, thank you for traveling with us.

Where will we go next year?

THANK YOU
PTA MEMBERS

Thank you to those of you who came to our meeting on Tuesday and approved both the by-law amendments and authorized the PTA to spend up to $55,000 on the Outdoor Play Space.

The Executive Board will be working with the Board of Education, Parks and Recreation and the RTM to move forward on this project.

Thank you as well to Dr. Julia Trebing, Director of Creative Therapies at the Cottage, for sharing her insight through her Positive Parenting discussion.  It was very informative and helpful to hear her suggestions on how to think about positive behavior in our children and ourselves.
