Dear ISD Families,

As we reach the mid-point of the school year, we'd like to take the time to recap what the ISD PTA volunteers have done so far this school year.

Enrichment

  • Classical Café - monthly lunchtime performances for all grades
  • STEM Museum - a hands-on science exhibit all students visited
  • Author visits - Laurie Keller and Sarah Weeks
  • BioBus - a mobile science lab visited by all students
  • Math Night - PTA sponsored and organized in cooperation with ISD teachers
  • Science Nights - presentation and hands-on experiments by Mad Science
  • IB Partnerships - throughout the year based on each grade's curriculum

Family Events

  • Welcome Back Ice Cream Social
  • Monster Mash - A favorite of ISD students
  • New Parent Social
  • Early Release Playground Playdates
  • Holiday cookie packaging for the ISD Staff
  • Movie Night - Old fashioned family fun

Fundraising

  • To date, 72% of ISD families and teachers have joined as 2013-14 members and membership contributions have exceeded $40,000, surpassing membership and contributions from last year.
  • Tag Sale/Fun Run, which raised more than $13,000 in September
  • Book Fair, which gave parents and children the opportunity to get excited about books together while also raising money for the PTA
  • Wrapping Paper Drive, Artsonia purchases, Box Tops, Photo Day, Spirit Wear

Afters

  • The Afters Committee organizes three sessions of after school programs for ISD students to explore their various interests. Offerings include sports, arts, creative, performance, and mind-stimulating classes.
  • Afters is the largest activity organized by the ISD PTA.
  • There were approximately 125 registrations in the Fall and almost 200 registrations in the Winter Afters Sessions.

As always, if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments about ISD PTA activities, please feel free to e-mail us or leave a message in our mailbox in the office.

Have a wonderful February break!

MOVIE NIGHT A BIG SUCCESS

Last Friday, ISD families enjoyed a special showing of The Croods while sharing pizza and popcorn with friends. It was great to see everyone enjoying an evening together.  movie night jan 2014

Thank you to Kim Costello and Kathy Kriskey for organizing the event and all the volunteers who stepped up to help hand out food. Also, a big thank you to John McDonnell for setting up our popcorn machine and making the popcorn for everyone.

This year's event went green as many children brought their popcorn bowls and received an ISD Green Team water bottle. Thank you to Margaret Mullen for co-ordinating the water bottle effort, Jamie Eschricht for the fabulous Sparky design, and the Green Committee, Kristen Lutz and Jill Townsend, for distributing the bottles and volunteering their time to send the message of reducing waste at PTA- sponsored events. Remember to bring your bottle to other ISD events and help reduce our waste.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO BRING BOX TOPS IN!

Thank you all those who have been bringing in the Box Tops for Education coupons you have been collecting for our school. Every dime counts, so please bring them in, even if you just have a few.

There is a special collections box, in the shape of a schoolhouse, in the hallway opposite the Main Office.

Please place properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or bag with your child's name and class written on it. The class that collects the most Box Tops by the end of February 2014 will be in store for a special class celebration.

Thank you!!!
