Dear ISD Parents,
The Asst. Superintendent and Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Parisi and Mrs. Sheila Civale, Math Coordinator, have arranged to have a trainer from the Math in Focus program be available for a parent session next Wednesday, January 22nd from 8:30 to 11:30 at Greenwich High School. If you are able to attend even for a short time, I would urge you to do so. This trainer provided some of the training we received and he was engaging and very knowledgeable about the program. Coincidentally, the teachers and I will participate in a training session after school on the same day on the subject of Math at our faculty meeting after school. The Eastern network coach will be here to speak about Think Central, a component of the new math program that contains many digital tools and information to support math teaching.
Last week I held the first magnet school information session. The next information session will be held Monday evening, January 27th at 7 pm. If you know of someone who may be interested in applying to our school for the '14-'15 school year, please let them know about the session. Applications are available on the district's website, as well as on our school's website. The deadline for applying is Friday, February 28th. If you are an ISD magnet family and have an incoming kindergartner, you need to fill out an application. Speaking of kindergarten, our orientation program for parents will be held Friday, February 21st at 9:15 am. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you to Sarah Zeegen and Suzanne Aysseh for planning and coordinating the two Science nights held this week. They were not only fun and entertaining but they provided a lot of learning for both students and parents.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci

SCIENCE MONTH

Science Night Discoveries!

This week, the ISD PTA hosted two Science Nights presented by Mad Science. Students watched the "Up, Up and Away" presentation and participated in four hands-on discovery stations. This year's Science Nights had the highest turnout we've ever had and it was great to see the children's excitement as they saw science come to life. Thank you to Sarah Zeegen and Suzanne Aysseh for organizing this wonderful and enriching night.
This enrichment program was organized and paid for by the ISD PTA. Thank you ISD families for your membership and financial support.
