Message from our Principal

Dear ISD Parents,

In spite of the snow, most parent conferences were able to be conducted prior to the holiday break.  In fact, the storms wreaked havoc on many of our scheduled activities, as well as those around the district.  Fortunately, it did not impact a musical activity that was scheduled on Wed.  Ms. Blake, one of our professional assistants, offered to have her sister, Ali, a talented harpist, come play for our students, while they sang holiday songs.  The singing, and the music from the harp, were absolutely beautiful and uplifting.

As you know last Friday was First Responders Day and the staff and students engaged in many activities to honor these very special people in our community.  Our fifth graders created baskets filled with all kinds of special items that they and the younger students created.  It was rewarding to see them working together and taking charge on pulling this project together.  It was clearly IB "taking action" right before my eyes, as well as their teachers.  What wonderful role models!  As I observed them, many words came to mind:  generosity, selflessness, caring, collaboration and patience.  As we head off into the holiday break, I want to wish all of you abundant amounts of these special traits, not only through the holiday season, but into a happy and healthy new year as well.

Warm tidings, Terry Ricci

NEWS
WINTER AFTERS

WINTER AFTERS COMING IN THE NEW YEAR!

Stay tuned to Dragon Tales for more information on fun and exciting classes your child can experience before or after school at ISD!

Winter Afters is a 6 week session with several choices of classes each day.

Conveniently, classes take place at ISD right after dismissal from 3:20-4:20p.

Look for more information in the New Year.

MEDIA CENTER READING CHALLENGE 2014

In celebration of the New Year, ISD students will be participating in our Annual Media Center Reading Challenge!  The school goal is to read 2014 books in the month of January and if students reach or exceed that goal they will earn a school-wide Dance Party in the gym at the end of the challenge!

After the vacation, your child will bring home a special bookmarker on which they should record the title of each book they have read.  As they complete each bookmarker, they should return it to the basket in the Media Center or to their classroom teacher.

Students are allowed to record the titles of books at their own reading level (or within a close range of their level) or books above their own level that parents or older relatives read to them.  They may not include books that are well below their reading level that they read to younger siblings or friends.

We know the students are already looking forward to this annual ISD tradition and we can't wait to begin!

2014 - 2015 BOE School Calendar Review

Survey Deadline Today!

The Board of Education (BOE) is considering a possible revision to the 2014-2015 School Calendar approved on December 20, 2012, specifically with regard to the Winter Recess in February.

The BOE is interested in your preference of three options described in the survey. The Board will discuss these school calendar options at its January 9, 2014 meeting and take action on any possible revisions to the 2014-2015 School Calendar at its January 23, 2014 meeting.

NEWS FROM THE NURSE

The holidays are here and we will all be going on the much-deserved upcoming break.

Lice check: I am requesting that parents continue to check their children for lice/nits during the holiday break and prior to coming back to school in January.  Please take this opportunity to inform family members and friends of the importance of this routine and the importance of everyone complying and being involved.  Please inform me if your child has been treated by you for this condition once we return to school.

Third grade parents who have yet to submit the required 3rd grade physical exams will be receiving reminders of the physical exams yet pending for the 2013-2014 school year.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a healthy and joyous holiday season.  Be safe and we will see each other in 2014. Have a Happy New Year!

DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

The dental health program will begin on January 6th.  This program is run by the Town of Greenwich and includes both an educational portion as well as a dental screening for all the students at The International School at Dundee.  This program is beneficial in continuing to maintain the health and well being of the students.

Thank you for promoting good dental health. Parents can also help by providing good nutritious snacks and lunches for their children.  It has to be a team effort from us all to combat decay and maintain a healthy life style.
