Dear ISD Families,
As the holiday season approaches, we reflect on all the things that make ISD such a special place. So much of this is because of how enthusiastic and involved our parents are at the school and we want to thank all of you for being part of this great community. Your PTA has been working hard over the past few months to provide enrichment programs and family events for all the children to enjoy and learn from. A pamphlet listing some of the 2013-14 programs organized by our Enrichment Committee went home this week, please take a look through it to see some of the exciting programs that are taking place this year. The ISD PTA is a 100% volunteer organization and without your efforts, none of these things would happen. Thank you very much to all the volunteers who have generously dedicated an abundant amount of their time and energy to making all these things come to life.
Thank you as well to all our members whose contributions are also critical to enabling these activities. Whether it be through membership donations or contributions to a fundraiser, every dollar of the money given to the PTA is very much appreciated and helps give ISD students a more enriching educational experience. If you have not yet had the chance to become a member of the PTA this year, we hope you will still consider joining. Please follow the link below to download a membership form.
Next week is the start of Parent-Teacher conferences. We also wish to thank our wonderful teachers, administration and staff for all they continue to do for our students and the ISD community even while adapting to the numerous new initiatives taking place within the district this year. A significant change taking place this school year is the full adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). National PTA and CT PTSA have put together a Parent Success Guide that outlines the CCSS for parents in a concise way. Please click here to access their guide.
Thank you all again, we are sincerely grateful for your unending time, patience, charity and passion. We have proven that when we work together, amazing things can happen.
We wish all our families a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Hanukkah. Most of all we hope you enjoy some special moments with your family and friends throughout the Holiday Season.

Tuesday, December 10th - 7pm
There will be two concerts, both to be held in the gym:
● The first, for students and teachers, will be held during school hours at 9:30am
● The evening concert, for family and friends, will be held at 7pm. Students who participate in both band and chorus should come to the gym at 6:15pm. After they warm up and tune, they will be dismissed to the music room to warm up with Dr. Heikel. Students who only participate in band should come to the gymnasium at 6:30pm
Students should plan on dressing up for the evening concert - white tops and black/dark bottoms.
No sneakers or jeans, please!
The students in all the performing ensembles have been working very hard and are eagerly looking forward to the concert. We are very excited to present what promises to be an enjoyable night of music. In the meantime, please encourage your children to increase their practice time in this "home stretch" before our concert. Lastly, prior the concert, the ISD 3-5 Winter Art show will be on display in the main hallways of the school from 1-4pm & 5-6pm. Please come and visit before the concert!
Following the concert, we will break from Friday before-school rehearsals for several weeks. These rehearsals will resume on Friday, January 24 (drop off between 7:30-7:45am). Lessons will continue as scheduled each week in the meantime. Thank you.
Happy Holidays!
